Let the Dig Begin. Wednesday, January 19, 2011. So the Greeks developed this philosophy thing called Stoicism. It was adopted from the Spartans - a war technique designed to remove emotion in order to be more successful in battle. They pretty much trained themselves to show no emotion and to feel no emotion - because emotions were destructive and an error in judgment. I am not a Stoic. Though there was a time I would say I had Stoic tendencies. And recently I started to wish I still did. January 22, 2011...

Let the Dig Begin. Tuesday, April 27, 2010. No intro necessary. Let's begin. The title. "Let the Dig Begin." What does it mean? I prayed for this person all day long before I realized that I, too, can sometimes feel like I have this "religion" down - that I have in some way learned how to "do it right.". A realization like this should really only provoke one response: "ew.". The treasure is not just knowing. That there is something underneath, but rather the simple fact that there is. And dig some more.

Let the Dig Begin. Monday, March 14, 2011. I'm going to be okay. And God confirmed that through my mom and sister this past weekend. I am loved tremendously. It seems dark cause I've never been in this place before. But my eyes just need to adjust. I'm going to be better than okay. I'm already better than okay. God is just too real and too good. And I dunno that I've ever meant that as much as I mean it now. Zechariah 9:12. That's my promise. Aaaahhh I love God. I LOVE my best friend and Father.

Let the Dig Begin. Friday, August 31, 2012. It was revealed only in it's departure. For one moment she had a ridiculous and scorching vision of a world in which God Himself would never understand, never take her with full seriousness. Then, at one particular corner of the gooseberry patch, the change came. Dropped down and vanished, unfluttering, into bottomless distance, like a bird in space without air. The name me. I loved it so much, I re-read it. And then I re-read it again. And then I typed it here.

Maddie, in her super cool t-shirt (she was on the red team) and new hat! Boy, was she excited! Maddie, with some of her friends from her class. Meeting her team and captain for the afternoon. (Good grief, am I such a first-time parent, or what? Taking pictures of her grouping up with her team like this? It's only the beginning.). She is the ...

Tuesday, July 1, 2014. Bring your own wheels! For Maddie's birthday party this year, we tried hard to link some of our experiences from the Netherlands into a theme. Tulips? There are plenty of ways to decorate. Riding her bike. And a theme was born. We also made sure to have a "refueling station" for everyone to stay hydrated. Stop-light Skewers" (strawberries, pineapples, kiwi chunks). An assortment of "Biker Snacks" to munch on. Bike Streamer Pasta Salad". All sorts of wheels came along to ride. When ...
