The Rambling Wren: The History of Me
http://marierust.blogspot.com/p/history-of-me.html
The History of Me. I was up in the attic the other day looking for a baby gate to use to keep the dog out of the bathroom where he likes to go to snack on kitty litter. I looked behind some boxes and found a big black portfolio. I dragged it into the bedroom. Inside was the history of me- my artwork and writing from the time I was in first grade, way back in.1973? I got quite a chuckle looking through the torn and yellowed pages. Like most artists I had very inauspicious beginnings. Stephen Crane. Mo...

The Rambling Wren: June 2015
http://marierust.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 11, 2015. Birding the Parks Highway, Wasilla to Denali. Our 8th day in Alaska marked the unofficial end of the birding tour, for me at least. We were heading to Denali, a place of my dreams, and I could not wait to get there. I couldn't care less about birds at this point- I wanted bears and wolves and moose and. But there was. More birding to be done, so I had to be patient. Gray Jay, or Whisky Jack, or Canada Jay, is a member of the Corvid family. As I have a tendency to do, I wandered o...

Monday, March 16, 2015. Harbor Seals and the Northwestern Glacier. After spending much of the winter in Florida I am back and ready to write more about my Alaska trip last June! Map of Resurrection Bay and Kenai Fjords National Park. One of the surprises for me was all the harbor seals we saw. I didn't have any idea where these animals lived, but I guess I didn't think it was here. We came across several groups lounging on the rocks near the Chiswell Islands, mostly adults and older pups. Several moms wi...

The Rambling Wren: Denali and Mt. McKinley, Alaska
http://marierust.blogspot.com/2015/07/denali-and-mt-mckinley-alaska.html
Saturday, July 4, 2015. Denali and Mt. McKinley, Alaska. What can I possibly say about Denali? Map of the park road in Denali National Park. The road past Eielson Visitor Center opened the day after we were there. Unbeknownst to me when we departed, you are allowed to disembark pretty much anywhere in the park, except for areas closed due to nesting eagles and bears with cubs. You just stand up, holler "Stop! 30% Club here we come! Mt McKinley from the shuttle bus. Clear as a bell in the morning light.

So we continue to search, to check shelters and take calls and hope and pray, and send good thoughts out to the doggie gods that he is safe and will come back home some day. Labels: Mr. Pickles. The Rambling Wren: January 2015
http://marierust.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Orcas in the Gulf of Alaska. Day six of our Alaska birding tour was another beauty. Calm winds and blue skies streaked with high white clouds provided the backdrop for snow-capped peaks and rugged granite cliffs covered with spruce. Much like the hike from Rock Harbor to Scoville Point on Isle Royale, everywhere I looked was a breathtaking scene. Tiny islands dotted the shoreline along the edge of Kenai Fjords National Park. Bear Glacier and the Harding Icefield. That lists eac...
