Diary of a Mad Gardener. The trials, tribulations and occasionally utter futility of growing flowers, fruit and vegetables. Wednesday, 19 August 2015. One giant courgette on the right, one mini cucumber on the left! The cucumber is meant to be that size, they are good for growing outdoors in a cool climate. Taste just the same as big ones, but the flesh is more dense. Very tasty. Wednesday, 12 August 2015. Arley Hall and Gardens Revisited. In May the long herbaceous border was green and dominated by the ...

Diary of a Mad Gardener. The trials, tribulations and occasionally utter futility of growing flowers, fruit and vegetables. Wednesday, 29 July 2015. One of the miracles of cookery is how green gooseberries make a ruby coloured jam. Here is my recipe:. 1 You need equal sugar to fruit, try to have a mixture of ripe and underripe fruit. Wash it, no need to top and tail the fruit unless you're a masochist! 3 When the fruit is soft and largely disintegrated, add the sugar and stir until dissolved. 6 It will t...

Diary of a Mad Gardener. The trials, tribulations and occasionally utter futility of growing flowers, fruit and vegetables. Monday, 15 June 2015. My blue geranium is in full bloom now. I love this plant, it requires no attention, is not fussy about position and is 100% reliable. This plant is actually in quite a sunny spot, which is not what you would expect for a geranium and the only problem I have with it is that is is huge! Tuesday, 9 June 2015. And the self-seeding endemic yellow poppy. This is the ...

Diary of a Mad Gardener. The trials, tribulations and occasionally utter futility of growing flowers, fruit and vegetables. Monday, 30 June 2014. With the rain behind us for a couple of weeks, the garden work has been mainly weeding and grass cutting to get back on top of things after the wet weather. It is still early in the summer but my New Dawn rose is now at its best. The weight of the blooms has dropped it slightly over the door, but it is having an excellent year. Saturday, 7 June 2014.
