Lost Pleiad Observatory

Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Super Blue Lunar Eclipse. I observed the eclipse from work, (The Mount Lemmon SkyCenter. Where we were providing a live stream of the eclipse for NASA. The image at left was taken with my Canon 6D and a 70-200mm lens set to 100mm, just before sunrise. You can see the eclipsed moon hanging in the dawn sky with Picacho peak in the distance at lower right (along with I-10 traffic just in front of it). Monday, January 1, 2018. International Space Station Transit. It all began here.

Lost Pleiad Observatory: Resources

http://lostpleiadobservatory.blogspot.com/p/resources.html

There are so many quality webpages and resources devoted to astronomy, that it would be impossible to capture them all in one place. Following are some of the websites that I frequent, arranged by topic. If you discover that a link is no longer working, or a useful link that I should include, please drop me an email at lostpleiad@gmail.com. Deep Sky Catalogs and Maps. The STScI Digitized Sky Survey. Saturday, January 3, 2015. Solar flashback and why I am not an astrophotographer. One reason I am not a serious astrophotographer: Patience. There are work arounds and settings that can be tweaked and for the most part things can be set effectively. It seems to work fine, but does not contain the wavelet sharpening tools that Registax does. Fortunately that functionality of Registax is still usable. I Also will try a program called Avistack. To see which I like better. Thursday, January 1, 2015. 2015 is ...

Mike's Astronomy Page: July 2011

http://mike-wiles.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

A corner of the Internet to document my astronomical adventures. Jul 14, 2011. A Proper First Light Part Deux. I wrote recently about my trip to Starizona down in Tucson and Dean's efforts to help me straighten out my imaging rig. Let me reiterate that he went far beyond what would be considered above and beyond the call of duty in helping me. Only a week later I was able to get some time away from civilization over the Independence Day holiday in Northern Arizona. So what was the end result? Nothing but...

A corner of the Internet to document my astronomical adventures. Sep 20, 2011. She Blinded Me With Science. 65279;. Amateur astronomy has long been a pursuit that loves to debate the controversial topics, even from its earliest days. All those hours spent studying, observing and watching the sky frees the mind enough that it can form hypotheses and compare them with those of nearby observing companions. I think it's going to hit the ground! To which Galileo simply replied, "No it isn't.". With the...

A corner of the Internet to document my astronomical adventures. Oct 31, 2012. NGC 6914 - Seeing Red. My emphasis on the Hydrogen Alpha data and its use in the luminance. Intended effect on the detail, but it cost me a lot. Reflection nebulosity that's in this nebula complex. I have been able to massively increase the amount of time that I spend imaging. Much narrowband data gets collected from my Arizona backyard while I sleep. During weekends at dark sky observing sites, CCDAutoPilot. Kies of Portal, AZ.

A corner of the Internet to document my astronomical adventures. Jan 17, 2012. Various and Sundry Things. I've had a few things that I've been meaning to talk about and they've been hangin' around on my back burner for a little while now. I enjoy the mechanical and technical aspects of imaging as much as the actual images, so that's what I'm going to talk about this time out. A corner of the Internet to document my astronomical adventures. Aug 7, 2013. World class imager Manuel Jimenez. Put together a tutorial some time ago that taught me much about PixInsight's implementation of deconvolution. His tutorial. Can be found at his website. There are a few points to remember in order to get the best results. 1 - Do deconvolution on a linear image. Before you stretch. 3 - Use the Dynamic PSF process module. It's your friend. The Astronomically Awesome Adventures of Astroweis - Die Astronomisch tollen Abenteuer von Astroweis. Monday, April 13, 2015. A diamond-shaped asterism / Ein diamantförmiger Asterismus. I do not know if this asterism is already a known one – but I certainly do not want to miss the chance of recommending this “object” for the gentle observers. The Astronomically Awesome Adventures of Astroweis - Die Astronomisch tollen Abenteuer von Astroweis. Monday, August 18, 2014. When Venus meets Jupiter / Wenn Venus den Jupiter trifft. In order not to get overtaken by the clouds, I put the camera and a telescope in the trunk and took off heading east. After some ten miles I found a spot which was quite scenic and which was not occupied by clouds. Since I was in a hurry before I went, I forgot to bring a tripod along. The Astronomically Awesome Adventures of Astroweis - Die Astronomisch tollen Abenteuer von Astroweis. Friday, February 27, 2015. Another planetary meeting / Ein weiteres planetarisches Treffen. In 2015, there are numerous conjunctions and close encounters of planets that can be observed given that weather conditions permit. This time, Venus and Mars came quite close together. Unfortunately, we were clouded out, so I was not able to see the conjunction on February 21. Pictures from top to bottom:.
