Field Notes

Sunday, August 28, 2011. From the Reef to the Canyon. Through the ponderosa pines. To the aspen forest and grassland. The rest of Utah as seen from the top. After climbing down the mountain we stopped for the most wonderful breakfast you could ever hope to have, at Hells Backbone Grill. The signage, should you ever find yourself in the area. Back on the road and with a cookie to go, we headed up the backbone of a beautiful ridge on our way to Bryce Canyon. The spine of the giant. A canyon to our right.

Field Notes: The HOH

http://www.louisaandsean.blogspot.com/2011/08/hoh.html

Saturday, August 6, 2011. Our primary destination on the Olympic peninsula was the campground at the heart of the national park, the Hoh. It is famous for its 140-180 inches of rain a year, which feeds a lush forest home to many unique plants and animals. More simply, it makes for very big trees covered in very thick mosses:. The mosses love the maple trees. Sun-dappled mushroom caps on a trunk. We didn't get to see a flying squirrel, but we still enjoyed watching this little guy. We're newlyweds, just r...

Field Notes: Seattle by Sea

http://www.louisaandsean.blogspot.com/2011/08/seattle-by-sea.html

Monday, August 8, 2011. If you ever head to Seattle and the weather is clear. take the ferry! After looking around the Victorian town of Port Townsend, we made our way to the city on the Sound. The views from the ferry were fantastic, first of Mt Rainer and then of city skyline. Formerly "the mountain that was God". A fellow ferry in Puget Sound. Our chariot in transit. A closer look of the waterfront. The above mentioned crab, delicious. The source for cherries and other fresh fruit. We're newlyweds, ju...

Field Notes: July 2011

http://www.louisaandsean.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 25, 2011. After our delicious Swedish brunch on Sunday, David offered to drive us to what in my mind was described as "some falls" east of Portland along the Columbia river gorge. As it turned out, the Gorge, its waterfalls and vistas combined with their proximity to Portland may be one of the most wonderful surprises of Oregon. The friends at the falls. It was a little scary under there with the noise of the water rushing overhead. A happy break on our hike. With the great friends, excellen...

Field Notes: Have you ever touched a starfish?

http://www.louisaandsean.blogspot.com/2011/08/have-you-ever-touched-starfish.html

Saturday, August 6, 2011. Have you ever touched a starfish? On our way to the Hoh Rainforest, we stopped at the creatively named "Beach Four" (there are beaches One through Six, if you're wondering) to see some real tidal pools. There we found gorgeous sea creatures, just like the ones we were introduced to at the aquarium in Newport. With green sea anemones. Mussels covering the rocks. Up close they look like this. Chasing Sunsets: May 2009

http://chriseaves.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 31, 2009. Honey, how long since the last.". Newborns require regular maintenance. I knew that would be the case. However; keeping track of the frequent 'pit stops' was unbeknown to me. Once upon a time I became certified as a Wilderness First Responder. The biggest part I recall is how to monitor the patient's vitals. It allows you to know if they're fading fast or recovering nicely. I just threw this in as an example of some of the faces he'll make when pooping! Friday, May 22, 2009. These a...

Chasing Sunsets: August 2009

http://chriseaves.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 21, 2009. It's all downhill from here. Four years ago, this guy I worked with invited me to go mountain biking. This event changed my mindset about biking through the desert. A few hundred cactus spines can have that effect. In my humble moments, this guy Adam stuck around, even though he laughed most of the time! So when he and his family decided to move to Alaska, there had to be a final biking trip. Tuesday, August 4, 2009. Thursday I go back to work. The excitement I feel is oversh...

Chasing Sunsets: September 2009

http://chriseaves.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 27, 2009. I'm constantly reminded of the ways in which life is like a game. Today's game: Tetris (original version with background music). We like our eclectic collection of furniture. Some finely made used pieces from thrift stores, IKEA glue togethers, and the few quality handmades by Emery's dad round out the objects relieving us of much needed space in our home. On the other hand, living on the ground might kinda suck. Thursday, September 10, 2009. Sure, I use toys, a swing, bouncer...

Chasing Sunsets: July 2009

http://chriseaves.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, July 30, 2009. I know I'm just posting videos, but this one is not by me. It shows skills on a bike I can only dream of, and the cajones to accomplish such feats. Wednesday, July 15, 2009. A new mountain bike video I made. Enjoy! Tuesday, July 14, 2009. Once upon a Saturday Night. Noah videos are so hot right now" - Mugatu. On that advice, here's a new one. Bath time. Cuteness. Need I say more? Monday, July 13, 2009. And so it begins. We walk and talk, oogle gadgets in store windows, giggle abo...

Chasing Sunsets: What goes up

http://chriseaves.blogspot.com/2010/05/what-goes-up.html

Thursday, May 6, 2010. It's been a long day. Hell, its been a long semester. But even all that craziness must wind down at some point. Today I blog for a second night in a row, which feels like a triumph in and of itself. Now that I have all this free time in the evenings, I should be working on the house or making the next few weeks teaching incredible. Instead I'm spending free time using my right brain. (See figure 1). May 7, 2010 at 11:17 AM. Are those pieces of reflectors? May 15, 2010 at 8:19 PM.

Chasing Sunsets: September 2010

http://chriseaves.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 22, 2010. Today was Car Free Tucson, a time to put the car keys down and pick up a bike, bus fare, or your walking shoes. I chose my bike, which is easy because it is my everyday commuter. But I also had one of my students commute to school alongside me today. It was fun to have a cloudy day for once, and celebrate by taking a few quick shots with the camera phone. I also decided to reward myself with a bit of coffee and sweets before going downstairs to work. View my complete profile.

Chasing Sunsets: September 2011

http://chriseaves.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 7, 2011. Back when I started this whole blog thing, I had many reasons to put up a post once or twice a day. Now, I have too many. I will never again be just my individual self again. Before I go further with this thought, I must clarify that the above statement truly became my realization at one point many years ago, but I kept hold of the notion that I could remain independent whilst deeply connected to another amazing soul. What was I thinking? On that note, I celebrate my persona...
