3BT – cool, new best, stuck, summer fruits | Louisa Parry

Louisa at louisaparry dot co dot uk. 3BT – cool, new best, stuck, summer fruits. 1 I walk to the allotment in the midday sun then hang out done more washing on the baking patio. Afterwards I’m reminded once again how much I love our cool house. 2 I destroy our joint equal best score at our silly addiction. 4 With the heat finally on the wane, I go to the allotment again after dinner. I fill my tubs with berries and currants to turn into jams and jellies – if John doesn’t eat them all first.

Louisa at louisaparry dot co dot uk. Based on the Three Beautiful Things. Project by Clare Law, I try to write about three pleasant things from my day. 3BT – pack/squeak-squeak-squeak/ buddies, fan, it’s ok/memories. 1 Our neighbour calls: there’s been a change of plan and could we possibly look after their dog today? 3BT – S-dog, a little goes a long way/p-p-pumpkin plant/neat, locate. 3BT – check in, raisins/huge/confused/pose, just about worth it. 1 While I’m still asleep, John goes to the new p...

Louisa at louisaparry dot co dot uk. There is an awful lot of waffle on this blog. I totally understand if you don’t want to wade through it all to find the good stuff. These are some of my favourites. They still include a lot of waffle but it’s a better quality of waffle :). I very much enjoy using Clare Law’s fantastic journal model. It helps me focus on slowly down, looking around and being positive. There are around 1000 posts in the full archive. But these are some of my very favourites:. 8211; a li...

Where growing, making and good living come together. My ten favourite simple living/growing/cooking/making books. On Tuesday 11 October 2011 in cooking. Inspired by book-aholic buying behaviour this month. I’ve decided to have a bit of a book-themed week both here and on my recycling site, Recycle This. Here, in no particular order, are some of my favourites:. The New Complete Book of Self-Sufficiency. The Vegetable & Herb Expert. Grow Your Own Vegetables. 8211; this book is almost the opposite of the He...
Garden epiphanies | The Really Good Life
http://www.thereallygoodlife.com/7383/garden-epiphanies
Where growing, making and good living come together. On Monday 18 June 2012 in growing. Since deciding to have a ‘less is more’ approach. This year (and being further encouraged on that path by seeds rotting in the soil and later by slugs. I’ve not felt overwhelmed by the garden this year and it’s given me the mental space to make bigger picture/longer term plans too. Both good things. To fill in the empty spots anyway. Have you done anything different with your garden this year? 18 June, 2012 at 8:37 pm.

Where growing, making and good living come together. Taking Stock – May 2015. On Thursday 28 May 2015 in growing. 8220;Is this thing on? Hope you’re all fine and dandy.). I’ve been spending a lot of time at the allotment recently and to make myself feel better about its still somewhat weedy paths, I wanted to look up the “before” pictures. 8211; from before I started reclaiming the plot last summer. Wow, I have come far! Still a long way to go and everything but cor, go me! What I’m…. It’d take too...
Book Review: Stitch Step by Step by Maggi Gordon and Ellie Vance | The Really Good Life

Where growing, making and good living come together. Book Review: Stitch Step by Step by Maggi Gordon and Ellie Vance. On Wednesday 23 November 2011 in Featured. It was a moment of serendipity when I spotted this book, Stitch Step by Step by Maggi Gordon and Ellie Vance. The design of the book grabbed me from the outset: the pretty blue/dotty cover; the clear, well laid out tutorial pages; and the stitch galleries, oh my, the stitch galleries. In addition to the colourful thread work, there were also sec...
Washing in winter: ideas for reducing laundry? | The Really Good Life
http://www.thereallygoodlife.com/6591/washing-in-winter-ideas-for-reducing-laundry
Where growing, making and good living come together. Washing in winter: ideas for reducing laundry? On Thursday 15 December 2011 in Featured. Some things just get left until spring: throws/blankets get taken out of service, occasional wear that I won’t need for another few months can stay in the washing basket, and bedding etc gets left in the washing basket too until a nice drying-outside day, even if that’s another month (or longer) away. Lazy is good. Around here, underwear gets changed every day, t-s...
How I lead a green and frugal life by Lily-dog | The Really Good Life
http://www.thereallygoodlife.com/7231/how-i-lead-a-green-and-frugal-life-by-lily-dog
Where growing, making and good living come together. How I lead a green and frugal life by Lily-dog. On Tuesday 6 March 2012 in Featured. It’s two years to the day since we brought Lily-dog home so I asked her to put some words together about how she leads a simple, green & frugal life with us. Sorry, got a bit overexcited there, I do like meeting new people. Would you like me to bring you a shoe? Because I can go and get one if you like? I had less that 12 items of clothing in 11 years! 8211; like going...

Where growing, making and good living come together. The financial pros and cons for building up a food store/pantry. On Thursday 11 October 2012 in Featured. Writing about my “I’ll keep a store cupboard in case zombies attack! There’s no question that having a small supply for food and water is essential if bad weather is predicted and it’s important to maintain emergency supplies. Why it makes financial sense to keep a large food store at home. Resulting in a cheaper cost-per-serving, and in many place...
Allotment, end of round 1 (ding ding) | The Really Good Life
http://www.thereallygoodlife.com/11379/allotment-end-of-round-1-ding-ding
Where growing, making and good living come together. Allotment, end of round 1 (ding ding). On Saturday 5 July 2014 in growing. While the rest of the county was watching the cycling. In the sunshine, I had a few hours at the allotment. I’m not going to document every second I’m down there but this visit had lots of “making big progress” picture opportunities and I thought I’d document it for my own record :) ). I cleared the metal frame area (which I’ll probably leave up as a structure for beans/pe...
Yay, allotment! | The Really Good Life
http://www.thereallygoodlife.com/11347/yay-allotment
Where growing, making and good living come together. On Friday 4 July 2014 in growing. I’ve wanted an allotment for about ten years. There are two allotment sites near our house and my plot is at the closer one – it’s a smaller, less well-equipped site (eg, no piped water on site) but I’ll be walking there most of the time and I’m lazy, so swings and roundabouts ;). I visited the site last week for a quick look around but we got to see it properly for the first time yesterday. Poking around amongst the w...

Where growing, making and good living come together. Ten minute chicken & sweetcorn noodle soup recipe. On Tuesday 13 September 2011 in cooking. I wrote this back in August but it didn’t post for some reason. Now that soup season has properly started, we’re less interested in light soups – we want warming stodge! 8211; but it’s still yummy :). Quick chicken & sweetcorn noodle soup recipe. 4 as a lunch. 15ltrs of fresh chicken stock. A green pepper, finely diced. About 250-300g-ish of sweetcorn kernels.

Was mostly used for her “Three Beautiful Things” journal – every night before bed, she recorded at least three pleasant things that happened during the day. They weren’t always about her cats.
