Music Squared: Back to Webcam/EyesWeb
http://louisekeane.blogspot.com/2008/07/back-to-webcameyesweb.html
Imedia Dissertation Project 08. Wednesday, July 16, 2008. After a few stressful weeks i came back and had a meeting with Mikael who convinced me that i should give webcam detection (using eyesweb) another chance. Unlike previous attempts i was able to actually do something successfully. By using a tutorial and changing some elements around i was able to make a motion detection/background subtracter. Here is the code. This code makes this. Turn into the following when you put a hand infront of it.
Music Squared: Flash buttons
http://louisekeane.blogspot.com/2008/06/flash-buttons.html
Imedia Dissertation Project 08. Tuesday, June 24, 2008. As my head as been wrecked with the webcam side of my project i decided to take a little break from it and decided to do a bit of the next step. I have made the visualisations along with rollovers. I am still trying to figure out how to get the buttons to play midi files. You can see what i have so far HERE. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Laura's blog - Virtual Vegas. Imedia Dissertation Project 08. Thursday, June 26, 2008. My head has been wrecked thinking of how I can get a webcam to pick up the right motion in the horizontal wall. I decided to look elsewhere to see what other things I could use to detect this. I was using one of those paper towel dispensers with the sensor in the front and thought that I should look into that as it seems the perfect kind of technology for what I need. My father works for a training company who are currently doing a course on securi...

Imedia Dissertation Project 08. Thursday, April 24, 2008. I finished my proposal this morning and just handed it up. I also just had a meeting with mikael to refine some of the technologies i will use. I have to e-mail Nora and ask her about the demonstration she showed the class before where a webcam can detect shadows and come to a conclusion what i should use for the horizontal plain. I have also added more pictures. Will keep you updated. Thursday, April 17, 2008. Friday, April 11, 2008. After some b...

Virtual Vegas: Update 31/7
http://virtual-vegas.blogspot.com/2008/07/update-317.html
Thursday, July 31, 2008. Since my last post I've been working more with Flash and I've figured out how to track the coordinates of a marker and print it out (to help me to code what Flash should do when a certain marker is at a certain coordinate). I've got my perspex sheet, it's 4ft x 2ft which is a bit longer than I'd planned - 4ft is a bit of a stretch (for most people anyway! So I might use the end of the table for something else. When it's finished it'll look and work like the model above :).

Monday, June 30, 2008. Last week, I managed to export a SketchUp model into Flash! This was an important step so I'm glad it worked eventually (with a relatively simple model). I used a piece of 3D modeling software called. From Electric Rain. Although I did. N't use it for any modeling, it allowed me to import a 3DS file (which I exported from SketchUp Pro) into Swift3D. I could then export this file from Swift3D with Papervision3D which resulted in a Flash file. There were a couple of minor problems:.
Virtual Vegas: Finally...
http://virtual-vegas.blogspot.com/2008/07/finally.html
Sunday, July 6, 2008. I've finally finished all of the map's major structures. Last week I set myself a deadline to finish the map by the end of the week so I could get on with the next part of the project. It wasn't easy considering it had taken weeks to get to that point (with 14 buildings left to do) but after a very. Long week it's finally done. For now, I'm going to go back over all of the buildings and add in the last pieces of detail (windows, etc.) and then some colour! The entire map now:.
Virtual Vegas: Update 18/7
http://virtual-vegas.blogspot.com/2008/07/update-187.html
Friday, July 18, 2008. Since my last update I've been learning how to use ReacTIVision with Flash. It's been hard because there's not as much information online to help as I'd like but I (think) I've finally figured it out - with a lot of help from the forums I've found. A screenshot of what this looks like:. I'm going to look into this more to see if I can figure it out. I'm also having some problems when I position the camera under a sheet of plastic and use that as a table to move the markers around o...
Virtual Vegas: April 2008
http://virtual-vegas.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Welcome to my blog! I've created this blog to document the progress of my M.Sc. Interactive Media project in UL. The official title of the project is "Virtual Vegas - simultaneous 3D modeling in a virtual and real-world environment". Soon, I'll post more about the inspiration behind the idea and my plans for it. For now, here's an outline of the concept:. For more information on the course and my work to date visit my website. Virtual Vegas: Update 14/7
http://virtual-vegas.blogspot.com/2008/07/update-147.html
Monday, July 14, 2008. The model is finally in Flash :). I ended up using a different method than I had planned. I'm still using the same software, Swift 3D, but in a different way. Originally, I exported the model using Papervision3D, which resulted in a great interactive 3D flash file but because the model was generated after it was executed there was no way to add any information on top of the map. I'm still looking into the original idea but I think this might end up being the best option.

Virtual Vegas: May 2008

Thursday, May 29, 2008. One problem I've been having with SketchUp is that it has been very slow already and this will probably get worse as I add more detail. I'm thinking of splitting the model into individual files - one file per building and combining them at the end. Links to this post. Tuesday, May 20, 2008. Is an interesting read and really useful for SketchUp updates! Links to this post. Monday, May 19, 2008. Links to this post. Sunday, May 18, 2008. Even looking at the simplest tutorials I've pi...

Imedia Dissertation Project 08. Thursday, August 7, 2008. Got Flash and EyesWeb talking :D. Now i just need to figure out how to get the message i want across. Thursday, July 31, 2008. After a week in Italy I got back on the dissertation. Monday I did a small bit of user testing with some children I know, it was very interesting and informative. I didn’t have any real prototype to show them though which annoyed me though. I have a meeting in UL tomorrow so I will update again after that. Unlike previous ...
