“Oh NO! There’s no POWER… |
https://waitingfortheweekends.wordpress.com/2008/09/22/no-power
There’s no POWER…. September 22, 2008. 8230;What ever will we do with out TV and internet and electronic entertainment? This has been the general reaction to the power outage that has ravaged our city today. Somewhere around 230,000 households in the Kentuckiana area are without power this evening due to a wind storm that had gusts upwards of 75 mph. It was what Ike had left for us. Gee…thanks Ike, this is what I always wanted. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Blog at WordPress.com.

With this blog, I will be writing about things I’m reading, have read, would like to read or anything else that strikes my fancy as it relates to the written word in published form. I will also review books I have recently read, but I am not limiting this blog to just reviews of books, at least that is not my intention at this time. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Learning Curve | A Balancing Act
https://beckyhall23.wordpress.com/2008/11/25/learning-curve
November 25, 2008. I’ve always heard that children learn more in the first few years of their life than they will in the rest of the years combined. Ryder’s capacity for learning new words, skills and concepts coupled with the speed at which he remembers and recalls these things is amazing. The next week while we were in the car, Ryder started saying helicopter, helicopter. I looked to where he was pointing and sure enough, behind a cluster of trees was a news channel helicopter. Song of Myself (sorry, Walt). September 29, 2008. Welcome to Reading the Leaves. This is my blog about books and my thoughts on them. Given that recommendations and thoughts on books are very subjective, I figured it would be best to introduce myself a bit, so you have an idea of how my opinions are developed. Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself,. I am large, I contain multitudes.). 8212; Song of Myself. With that, I will end this introduction. I will post shortly about a book ...
The 33 Strategies of War | Reading the Leaves
https://rfinder.wordpress.com/2008/12/05/the-33-strategies-of-war
The 33 Strategies of War. December 5, 2008. Rating: * * *. My reading list seems to fluctuate between fiction and non-fiction. I will go for long periods of time and read nothing but fiction and suddenly, poof — I only want non-fiction. I have been going through a bout of non-fiction interests lately and picked up. The 33 Strategies of War. This is a book I had started a while ago, but due to various obligations was not able to finish reading it at that time. I have finished reading it now. The Art of War.
Two hands are better than one! | Reading the Leaves

Two hands are better than one! November 17, 2008. I love second-hand bookstores. I like all bookstores, but recently I discovered I really enjoy going to Half Price Books. Bookshelves and piles of books litter the store. The smell of old books permeates the entire atmosphere and I nearly become heady with the scent when I walk through the doors. Bored of the Rings. The Outlaw of Torn. The Adventures of the Stainless Steel Rat. By Harry Harrison),. By Esther Friesner), and. 8211; which I no longer have, b...
On Shelves Now! | Reading the Leaves
https://rfinder.wordpress.com/2008/11/03/on-shelves-now
November 3, 2008. I just received wonderful news — two of my favorite literary characters are back, with new books! I haven’t read the books, yet, so I can’t report on how good they are, but I can report that they are available for purchase (or check out from your local library). Be warned, there are twelve books (including this newest! In the Repairman Jack series. Pretty good for a character who started out as a one-off and was never intended to have more than one book. Cowboy & Octopus | Reading the Leaves
https://rfinder.wordpress.com/2008/10/20/cowboy-octopus
October 20, 2008. Author: Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith. Cowboy and Octopus is visually a funny book. The main character illustrations are the same throughout the entire book (notice them in the cover image shown with this review), and appear to be images cut from old catalogs or magazines. They are then superimposed on other pictures, almost like paper doll stories. The art, for me anyway, is somewhat reminiscent of the old Monty Python segue animations from the Flying Circus episodes.
