Childhood should be a time of fun and exploration. But for many children in El Salvador, it’s difficult to “just be a kid.” These children are victims of circumstances beyond their control. Poverty, violence and neglect have left them in an environment unfriendly for children. They don’t have a safe space where they can be themselves and play like normal kids. Tuesday, August 11, 2009. Love and Hope Children’s Home in Nejapa, El Salvador is one of our favorite places. We’ve been traveling there for a number of years to help out wherever we can. Sometimes we build walls. And paint rooms. Sometimes we fix. Sometimes we feed the local community. Always, we play. With the kids, help them with their homework. One Day at Love and Hope. While in El Salvador last week we talked to Platanillo community leaders about building our playground. They were very receptive to the idea and gave us a great plot of land to develop. It’s 20 meters by 20 meters, and almost flat. With a little bit of work shuffling some dirt, it should be perfect. Here is the land we plan to turn into a playground (click for larger view):. Glasswing International

We recently returned from another great trip to El Salvador. While we were there we met with an organization called Glasswing International. Who has experience building playgrounds in El Salvador. This connection will allow us to greatly reduce the cost of the playground and speed up our timeline. On top of that, it also allows us to provide work for local people and construct parts of the playground out of recycled material. It’s a wonderful turn of events. Powered by Radiant CMS.
