Dangerous Curves: October 2014
http://biggirlderby.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Derby, nutrition, depression, cooking, writing; it's complicated. Love You, Love You Not. Wednesday, October 22, 2014. Jam On It: How to Make Jam. Apple season means jam season in our house. As I share my jamventures with others, I hear over and over how intimidating jamming seems. It's a simple process, really. To demystify it, I offer a primer. Get to work peeling some fruit. Husband walks in the door. Use him to test market your clever "Jam On It" catch phrase. Now chop all the fruit. Fruit in a pot!

Dangerous Curves: 'Soup?
http://biggirlderby.blogspot.com/2014/11/soup.html
Derby, nutrition, depression, cooking, writing; it's complicated. Love You, Love You Not. Saturday, November 22, 2014. Whose idea was it to make soup out of cheese? For this person, I would like to start a church, sacrifice some virgin cows. What good would virgin cows be, otherwise? Everyone knows the first step on the road to cheese involves a knocked-up lady cow. Soups are my favorite way to pack a bunch of nutrient-dense vegetables into a meal without having to go to all the work of chewing them.

Dangerous Curves: In the Numbers
http://biggirlderby.blogspot.com/2014/12/in-numbers.html
Derby, nutrition, depression, cooking, writing; it's complicated. Love You, Love You Not. Monday, December 1, 2014. Dad’s breath grew erratic and ragged. He drew one last, long burst of air and pushed it out, exhausted and spent. That was it. This gentle, wry man—the one who showed me the numbers running throughout our entire lives—was gone. Axis and time over the x. The moment after Dad took his last breath, his empty shell lying on the bed, the numbers were silent. No equation could graph our pain.

Dangerous Curves: July 2014
http://biggirlderby.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Derby, nutrition, depression, cooking, writing; it's complicated. Love You, Love You Not. Wednesday, July 23, 2014. I didn't know it was so bad. You are my friend. I want to please you. What’s new with me, you ask? That’s the thing. Nothing’s new. Nothing. I spent my week watching episode after episode of a stupid show on Netflix, caring but not caring. Numb to the world around me, to my own feelings threatening to overwhelm me. Blink and you’ll miss it. Friday, July 18, 2014. Like what it's like to swim...

A Quilt Obsession: Jul 29, 2009
http://roxywriterquilts.blogspot.com/2009_07_29_archive.html
Wednesday, July 29, 2009. Every art quilter I've talked to heavily emphasizes how instrumental a design wall is to their process. The idea is that you need to be able to see your design up on a wall, take a step back, and look at it from a distance to truly view it as a whole, as a piece. Once again, my limited space. The real question is, what do you think of the background? Anything jumping out at you? Do these pieces work together, or do any of them need to be changed? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Sunday, June 7, 2009. Many of the threads turned out to be thicker than I anticipated, but the thicker thread creates a beauty of its own. I'm very happy with the way this quilt turned out! This turned out fantastic. Great job on the free motion quilting. June 7, 2009 at 10:13 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Saturday, June 6, 2009. Now that I have the baby quilts behind me for now (Stop procreating, people! It's time to turn my attention to finishing some quilts that have been waiting patiently in line. I turned to this task last weekend and realized that I have no fewer than half a dozen quilts in some stage of construction. They all need some love, and I'm tending to them each in turn. This one is one of your best. June 18, 2009 at 12:33 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

A Quilt Obsession: Lillies!
http://roxywriterquilts.blogspot.com/2009/07/lillies.html
Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Last post, I wrote of a line drawing I had created to use as a pattern. I've posted the drawing here. So far, I have created the flower applique, and am in the process of figuring out the background. The original photo I'm using for inspiration has some dirt and some leaves, so I'm thinking I'll use some browns and greens to piece together the background. In my mind they'll be curvy pieces, which means I'll be learning a new technique: piecing curvy lines! More on this later!
