We feed 2 000 children in Kayamandi a meal of a peanut butter sandwich, a piece of fresh fruit and a glass of milk daily. The children are from 27 crèches, 2 primary schools, 2 high schools (walk-ins) and several after-school programmes. We conduct scientific nutritional surveys on the children biannually to assess levels of malnourishment. Click here for graphs with results. Individual interviews establish areas of skill and interest, examining areas of potential for income-generating activities. Microbusiness course, microfinance loans for viable business plans and mentorship. Formal employment and skills training, including computer-literacy training, assistance with CVs and a job opportunities notice board. Vocation hub for young adults (average age 19 -25 years): individual counseling and assistance with applications, computer literacy and CVs.

In Kayamandi, an estimated 30 000 people live, and the many of these live in informal housing with no running water or electricity. Our Enterprise Development and food-parcel programme, which runs for six months, is structured towards creating an environment in which unemployed parents are encouraged to begin to imagine a better life for themselves and are helped towards income-generating activities.
