Our work on our blog has been a little bit slow as we have had new computers at school to learn about. Hopefully this term we will be able to take more time to add new posts to our blog. Can you match up some of these Maori words and work out the meanings of some places in New Zealand? Wanga (whanga) - bay or stretch of water. Naki (ngaki) - shining. Kanae - grey mullet (fish). Tara - mountain peak. 18 July 2011 at 22:53. I can see wai - kato. Waikato means flowing water and that fits with the big river up by Hamilton!
