White Trash Cappuccino: Abject Failure
http://whitetrashcappuccino.blogspot.com/2010/06/abject-failure.html
High-dollar tastes in a no-dollar world. Today is my 4th wedding anniversary! In honor of that, I'm finally getting around to a subject I keep meaning to write about: Joshua. I was hoping to write an essay about him as a Christmas present, then for his birthday. If I don't do it today, I doubt it will ever get done, and 4th anniversary is the blog-post anniversary, right? I give up. This is too hard and I'm not even approaching organization. June 13, 2010 at 12:17 PM. June 14, 2010 at 3:57 PM.

High-dollar tastes in a no-dollar world. It was beautiful out this morning—temperature got up to eighty, the sun was shining like there was no tomorrow, and the boys were at their grandparents' house—so Josh and I drank our coffee out in the camper and talked about all the things that have to be done before The Move. With Josh doing most of the downsizing and me doing most of the procrastinating. So I’ve put off working on this for as long as possible. Sitting there in the camper this morning, staring ou...

High-dollar tastes in a no-dollar world. Goodbyes Come in Twos. You were crazier than anyone ever and your name was accurate. That set the tone for the rest of our frie...

Setup on Front Street. A Good Man is Hard to Find. Review: Aquarius Falling & Capricorn’s Collapse. April 11, 2014,. Here is a great review of my novels, from Albert Bekus, Professor Emeritus, English Dept., Austin Peay University. Delaney’s narration is remarkable. As narrator he is precise, observant, believable. We trust him. As a character he has another personality, one that sometimes surprises us, intrigues us, an enigma. A hero/antihero? Good plot (the story’s the thing), good characterization, an...

High-dollar tastes in a no-dollar world. God the Father and Mother. Our pastor said he’d made it a few blocks when it started to get dark and cold and too real. He wasn’t sure where he would live now or who would feed him. He couldn’t go back home, but he didn’t want to keep going. He said he stood there for a while, then began to cry. After a few seconds, he heard his father get out of the car. His dad hugged him, then led him back to the car, and buckled him in. Together, they went home. That’s w...

High-dollar tastes in a no-dollar world. Ultimate Road Trip FAQs. But this is also how weird moving is: Ten years ago almost to the day, Joshua asked me to marry him. A few weeks later, I loaded everything I owned into the back of my dad's truck, and left for Brooklyn where I was pretty sure my future awaited. 1 How's this going to work? My guess is pretty well. Josh and I both love traveling and the boys love "going on long trips.". 2 With kids, though? I'll assume from your tone that you've either met ...

High-dollar tastes in a no-dollar world. Nothing takes me back to my childhood quite as powerfully as long drives after dark—especially if it’s Saturday and the Country Gold is cranked up loud. Links to this post. Coping Mechanisms as Story Generators. The actual process goes something like this: Wake up in the middle of the night, scared to death? Imagine you live in a world where you're only awake at night and you're not scared. Why is the world like that? Because I'm a former child soldier who still t...

High-dollar tastes in a no-dollar world. Sincerity vs. Perfection. I read a lot. And go back and work on it again. Write. Rewrite. Edit. Rewrite. Edit. Rewrite. Edit. Rewrite. It's still not good enough. Fail better. Write what hurts. Kill your darlings. Etc., etc. But I didn't study reading. Or, more specifically readers. Here's something they don't tell you in writing school: Readers will forgive almost anything if the story is good. What do I mean by a "good" story? That Pixar put out a year or so ago...
