Sarah and Freddie 1,000 Days. The first 7 days. The first 7 days. Freddie is about to become her new best friend. Surgery this afternoon left Sarah very groggy and miserable. She looks defeated. Poor child probably wondering what is going on. She slept reasonably well considering what she has been through. However, every time the drip runs out of fluid it starts beeping and she finds the noise really distressing. My heart is breaking for her. I will get around to finishing this page…one day. This last year has been a testing and trying road with many ups and downs and seemingly never-ending (scheduled) hospital visits. Thankfully, Sarah is thriving despite temperatures, chest infections, scary liver function test results and the usual doses of chemotherapy and steroids. Fingers crossed it lasts! Yesterday was her first day of ‘big school’ and today she turned 5. There were no tears yesterday, she went in happy and came home happy and was delighted to go back again today. It felt as if we were in for a lifetime of blood tests, chemotherapy and emotional meltdowns courtesy of Dex. Well, the end has begun. On Sunday January 18th Sarah took her last ever dose of Dex and threw the bottle over the deck (into the garden – it was a symbolic gesture! We can see the light at the end of the tunnel now.
