Crime Spree | Impossible Alice

Books, cake, and coffee. Great Expectations – Charles Dickens. Injury Time →. January 20, 2013. I’ve been spending a lot of evenings/weekends reading recently, partly because of the constant snow and cold weather, and have got through quite a few books. I’ve always been a fan of crime novels, and have read three really good ones lately. The Echo Man – Richard Montanari. Camilla Lackberg – The Hidden Child and The Drowning. What are your favourite crime novels? Which writers would you recommend? An Americ...

Books, cake, and coffee. Favourite Books of 2016. January 15, 2017. These are in no particular order, and are not necessarily published in 2016, but my favourites of those I read. I read 133 books, and ended up with 16 that I thought really stood out. The Name of the Wind … Continue reading →. March 16, 2013. January 27, 2013. I haven’t been able to type much as I fell down some icy steps and hurt my arm. So instead, here’s a photo of the books I’ve read over the last four days. January 20, 2013. I’...

Wednesday, February 2, 2011. Toward a Bibliography of Place. An interview on Poetry Foundation.org called A Shifting Sense of Place: Four contemporary poets discuss where their work belongs in the world. Transferring, and negating within the geographic boundaries of here. This is not to say there aren't useful insights into the process of place in Richard's interview:. Unfortunately, I really don't see anything that might come out of the type of process she is talking about in her poem Hip-Hop Ghazal.

Tuesday, October 26, 2010. Toward a Working Theory of Place. This term, in so far as it refers to art (here specifically literature) perhaps needs some definition. For clarity's sake then, When I say place. So when I say Literature of Place. I think a definition is necessary, because (aside from the fact that I want to make myself clear) we have reached a point where there is now enough of a tradition of writing about place to do so. If we can define something we can begin to work toward the construc...

Saturday, May 21, 2011. What would Skip James do? Live every day like it's the rapture. Monday, May 9, 2011. Not unreasonable, but does have a system from which it can not be moved without a great deal of internal deliberation. Do not read this as an inability to change. There is also a constantly rearranging set of artifacts suggesting alternative meanings; the order of things requires consideration. Inevitably, epistemology is the refusal to accept another system save the mapped self.

Friday, April 29, 2011. But most thro' midnight streets I hear. How the youthful Harlot's curse. Blasts the new born Infant's tear,. And blights with plagues the Marriage hearse. Monday, April 18, 2011. Thought more about this song:. Monday, April 11, 2011. The process of looking at the world through one's own place. The practice of being bounded in a nutshell and counting oneself a king of infinite space. Having the quality of being able to see as much of all there is to see. Sunday, April 10, 2011.

Transcendentalism | Emerson's School
My Philosophy of Learning. Emerson’s Scholar Now. November 22, 2015. Marilynne Robinson, novelist, essayist, and teacher at the University of Iowa, recently delivered the Presidential Address at Stanford’s Humanities Center. Her title and the topic for that address demonstrates her deep interest in Emerson: “The American Scholar Now.”. What sounds and seems familiar? Is there a critique in Emerson of the kind of utilitarianism in education that concerns Robinson? November 15, 2015. Harold Bloom, one of t...

August 26, 2014. Bull; by Liz. I’m the kind of person that can eat the same thing over and over again without really getting tired of it but, every now and again, I do need to mix things up. Yesterday was one of those days. I had my usual ground turkey in the refrigerator and I was like “Um, what do I have in my kitchen that is awesome? Easy Buffalo Turkey “Meatballs”. Total time: 35 minutes. 1 lb 93/7 ground turkey. 1/4 cup finely chopped bell pepper. 1/3 cup finely chopped onion. 1 tsp garlic powder.
