STEMI | On the "Bus"
https://nyemt.wordpress.com/2009/12/23/stemi
December 23, 2009. I almost always enjoy working with medics, and this past Sunday was no exception. I’ve been entertaining the idea of going to paramedic school prior to medical school, and with that thought in mind I have been studying a bit of ECG interpretation along with the ALS protocols for my city. 8221; (ignore my terrible Russian spelling, this is roughly how it sounds though). which translates to “chest pain? 8220;Da. Da” … “yes, yes”. I have the 3-lead by now, and it shows some ST elevations ...

Dispatches from the Street: December 2007

Dispatches from the Street. Rants, Raves and Stories from the mud, the blood and the beer. Twenty Six Years as a Firefighter/Paramedic. Friday, December 14, 2007. The Knife and Gun Club. I pulled on my pants and walked to the front door and looked out through the peephole. It was a good one, and gave me the 360 view of outside. There was no one there. I thought I had been dreaming and went back to the dorm and got a couple of hours sleep. I turned around and wrestled him to the ground. My partner lay...

Dispatches from the Street. Rants, Raves and Stories from the mud, the blood and the beer. Twenty Six Years as a Firefighter/Paramedic. Monday, September 28, 2009. Do you have any good stories? 8221; But to us, these people are not just stories. They are people who bleed. Who cry. Who die. So you answer “Ah, nothing much happened.” Because when we tell a story if it is for the vicarious thrill of somebody, it diminishes the pain of the victim and our efforts. Posted by Roger Huder. Thanks so much. It...

April 30, 2010. I’m going to try a new type of post here, probably not very interesting to most, but it will be helpful for me and other paramedic students out there. Inspired by: http:/ www.rhmedicclass.com. Another medic student in NYC, although I’m not sure which school he/she attends, it isn’t mine. The Nervous System Organization. The CNS and PNS are connected by afferent or efferent nerves. A. Fferent sends signals a. Way from the PNS and to the CNS, while e. Neurons are cells that communicate with...

Intox | On the "Bus"
https://nyemt.wordpress.com/2010/08/06/intox
August 6, 2010. As anyone working in a big city in paramedicine knows, we often get sent to “unconscious” patients that end up being a drunk that decided to catch some Z’s in the middle of the street. We had one such call today, at 4pm in the afternoon. We picked up and onto our stretcher and into the truck. After enjoying a nice sternal rub he woke up. Of course he denied drinking, and then the following exchange:. Intox: “why am I here? Me: “you were sleeping in the street”. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

July 17, 2010. The middle-aged Hispanic male that presented to the ER today after cutting his hand open with a circular saw unnecessarily reminded me that power tools are indeed sharp, and probably should not be used when your hand is in the line of fire. Sick | On the "Bus"
https://nyemt.wordpress.com/2010/08/05/sick
August 5, 2010. Within EMS, when we are dispatched to a “sick job”, it’s a BLS emergency (meaning EMT’s are sent, not paramedics) because it’s assumed to be a less serious patient. But, in medicine, if a doctor asks a colleague to come see a “sick” patient, it means he/she believes that person is seriously ill. It’s the EMS equivalent of a “legit” job.
