Thole Man: October 2011
http://tholeman.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 30, 2011. During 2009 while working in Larnaka I made a series of large drawings of individual "priestess" figures taking part in some imagined temple activity. They were shown at the college's gallery as was customary. Artists-in-residence are usually invited to stage an exhibition of their work, not only at CyCA. But wherever that residency may be. Perhaps these drawings will all get another airing at some future venue. This is edited from another painting, " Meeting. And and one of the...

http://tholeman.blogspot.com/2011/12/cathedra-update.html
Thursday, December 22, 2011. Painted some of the component parts today and set it up as a sub-assembly to see how its going to look. The black box it all fits into stands 33 inches tall. The figure that will sit on the throne is yet to be carved. A piece of limewood is sitting on the bench waiting. Meanwhile here is a clay maquette of the figure sitting on a corrugated cardboard mock-up of the throne. Untitled Male" is its provisional name. A reaching figure holding an ovoid form (egg? Thole Man: The Healer
http://tholeman.blogspot.com/2011/12/healer.html
Friday, December 02, 2011. Regular readers may recall seeing this image as part of the second picture posted here. This drawing is 40 x 50 cm. and is intended to be developed into a painting at some point. Actually I'm having to plan what I do and when, in the studio just now. At the moment I'm making a number of carvings. That generates a lot of dust. Not a good environment to make paintings in, so such work is on "hold" for the time being. So, what about this image, The Healer. View my complete profile.

Thole Man: "The Offering"
http://tholeman.blogspot.com/2012/03/offering.html
Saturday, March 17, 2012. Back in November I posted the earlier stages of this work. And the problems I was having with wood shrinkage and its resultant cracks. The problem was never entirely resolved. I managed to do repair work but the scars could not be completely hidden. But I decided to finish the piece anyway. If you look closely at the knees you can see the repaired cracks. This view shows the bowl's interior. I might make similar bowl in the future. To the aesthetic. Interesting, - hmm? Subscribe...

Thole Man: Healers and Healed
http://tholeman.blogspot.com/2011/10/healers-and-healed.html
Tuesday, October 25, 2011. This last few months has shown me just how fragile health is. Gradual decline with advancing years can be an accepted norm and indeed was in my case until a spate of urine infections told me that there's more going on here. There's something wrong. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I have been an artist since the beginning of the 1960s and retired from the day job since 2005 so I make art full time. I make 2D work and small scultures. I have spent time in Cyprus worki...

Thole Man: Of Angels...
http://tholeman.blogspot.com/2011/11/of-angels.html
Friday, November 18, 2011. While I've been working on this. It is a romantic image of its day but I like it none-the-less for that. They feature very strongly in the psyche. They can be manifested as winged beings or as in the Far East, Bodhisattvas. Is a winged being but purports to being a deity rather than an a ngelos. But angels are more than mere messengers. Some act as guardians as depicted in the story of Tobit and the Angel. While others serve as celestial musicians or even as warriors. Science c...

Thole Man: March 2010
http://tholeman.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 23, 2010. Night seemed to come early and the storm suddenly descended . Never before had she known a storm quite like it. But she knew she was safe. She settled to sleep in front of a glowing fire that burnt brighter because of the wind. She was awakened just before dawn by a crash of thunder and the ground shaking with the force of it. Then she sensed the storm starting to abate. She dozed. But where were the two sisters? I asked him, “What happened to the girl in the end? 8220;You’...

Thole Man: November 2009
http://tholeman.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 25, 2009. A Couple of Pieces of Work. Here are some of the sculptures I made in Cyprus. The standing figures are about 30 cm tall. This is how they were shown at the Cyprus College of Art's gallery. Links to this post. Thursday, November 19, 2009. As Homer would have put it,. Rosy fingered Dawn drove the darkness from the night as Selene's brilliance waned and Helios harnessed his bright steeds to his chariot to rise from the wine-dark sea into the brightness of a new day. However the...
