Urban Gardening in the Upper Midwest. Jardin Potager (Kitchen Garden). By pamjillreardon on May 15, 2013. Like many gardeners north of Chicago, I’ve been reluctant to plant too quickly this spring. Temperatures dipped below freezing again last weekend, tough weather for tender seedlings. But there are plenty of resilient herbs and vegetables that can withstand chilly spring nights; our first kitchen garden installment is composed these. I purchased many of my seedlings from Voss Organics at the Madison F...

Sunday, July 29, 2012. But now the question is "What to do with all the zucchini? So far we have grilled, sauteed and included in lasagna. Now it is time to share or bake. In my last three garden summers the zucchinis got sick and died. This year they thrived. I forgot how prolific they can be and am caught with out a plan. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Author: The Garden Generalist. It’s Always Spring in San Francisco. December 31, 2016. December 31, 2016. This past year has been all about visiting places during spring time or visiting places where spring is eternally sprung, and one of my last trips of the year was no exception. I visited San Francisco this November to get a taste of some cooler, less humid weather and I was astounded by all the plant babies and nature the west coat had to offer. Continue reading →. Quick Trip to Chicago. December 24, 2016. The last several weeks have been extremely busy and I haven’t paid as much attention to the blog as I should. Since November I’ve been to Chicago, San Francisco, and Denver. Chicago was a quick getaway trip that was cold, gray, rainy, and full of fall colors. The garden beds were full of long grasses, browning northern sea oats. And clusters of fluffy white flat top asters. Bright purple tatarican asters. And orchid-like toad lilies. View of the Jay Pritzker Pavi...

Observations in an Urban Garden. Sunday, October 10, 2010. If you stop by the garden this week, you will have a prime opportunity to see Amsonia hubrichti. I in its most colorful splendor.
