Great Smoky Mountain National Park. After spending some time on the Blue Ridge Parkway and in North Carolina we headed west over to Great Smoky Mountain National Park. What a pretty place to visit in the fall! We were lucky enough to arrive during the Elk Rut. We got to do some trout fishing in the National Park. Fishing in the streams and rivers of this park was really fun and took us off the hiking trail to some pretty and more remote spots. Next we're off to Atlanta! Posted by Michelle Nelson.

Happy First Birthday Tahoe! Posted by Michelle Nelson. Matt and I watched the HBO series about John Adams and ever since seeing it, we've been really interested in our second president. His birthplace, first home as an adult and second home that he lived in after being president are all just south of Boston in the town of Quincy. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Parkway that stretches from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. The parkway provides 469 miles of scenic beauty along the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Blue Ridge Parkway has several visitors centers, campgrounds, and exits to cute little towns along the route. We started the Blue Ridge Parkway on a foggy morning in Shenandoah National Park and hopped on and off the parkway all the way to the Smoky Mountains.

Tales From The Camping House. Tales From The Camping House. Thursday, July 14, 2016. After we left Telkeetna, our next destination was Anchorage. It was strange being in a town so large. Anchorage has approximately 300,000 people so it was nice to see Target, Costco, Kohl's and all the other big stores. We only went to Costco and Fred Meyer's to restock, but it was nice to know the other stores were available. We spent one night parked at the Moose Lodge and left the next morning for the Kenai Peninsula.

Tales From The Camping House. Tales From The Camping House. Tuesday, July 19, 2016. We arrived in Seward on Monday. The fire was still burning near Anchorage causing the drive in to be hazy. Tuesday, the wind had changed, the skies had cleared and we were scheduled for a 9 hour glacier wildlife cruise through Kenai Fjords National Park. We left the port of Seward, the only port open year long in Alaska. The first glacier we came to was Bear Glacier, a tidewater glacier, that comes right up to the ocean.

Tales From The Camping House. Tales From The Camping House. Sunday, July 24, 2016. We spent this week at Stoney Creek RV Park in Seward with mountain views surrounding the motorhome. We went to Exit Glacier one day at the Kenai Fjords National Park. It is one of the few glaciers you can drive to and then take a hiking trail to get closer. The river along the trail was full of glacial silt from the melting of Exit Glacier. There was a great view of more glacier covered mountains. And the Horned Puffin.
