Lwebuga House Renovation

Thursday, January 29, 2009. Starting to Move Back In. As do-it-yourselfers, it becomes readily apparent just how much extra work a general contractor does to complete a project. It's not very apparent from these photos, but we have kept the job of caulking and painting the trim for ourselves. something that would ordinarily cost around $7000 to have done by professionals for a house this size (2500sf). Lwebuga House Renovation: December 2008

http://www.lwebuga-house.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 3, 2008. As an architect, renovating my own house was a great experience. More than anything, it gave me some insight into the range of emotions that my clients go through over the scope of a home renovation project. Just before the drywall was installed, I reached a point where I was so used to looking at framing that I stopped imagining my house as a home! It felt like it would never be comfy and clean and quiet again! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Lwebuga House Renovation: November 2008

http://www.lwebuga-house.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Friday, November 21, 2008. In September, primer and paint went on. Charlie Slaughter, our neighbor, painted our house! His #1 piece of advice: use oil-based primer. So that is what you see here. In the meantime, there is Julie, working on the formwork. For the front steps. I actually built two window wells in addition to the new basement entrance door, so my basement doesn't feel like a basement at all anymore. it's very bright and cozy. A perfect Portland touch. Can you see that crown molding between my...

Lwebuga House Renovation: Concrete Control Joints

http://www.lwebuga-house.blogspot.com/2008/11/concrete-control-joints.html

Friday, November 21, 2008. Concrete cracks. And for some unknown reason, people seem to hold that against the concrete! There is a way to control the cracking, and that is to build in joints to control the cracks - in essence, forcing the cracks to crack along straight lines! One way to create a control joint - the way I did it here - was to cut the surface of the concrete about 3/8" down on the day following the concrete pour. Sunshine Coast Concrete Cutting. HOUSE PERFECT: Dormer Addition

http://spinnakerarchitect.blogspot.com/2012/08/dormer-addition.html

Love the home you're in. Wednesday, August 1, 2012. My clients for this dormer addition project in N Portland just sent me a note that they have permits! I am so excited for them, and excited to see the project built. It's a pivotal moment as a homeowner when you pull permits. Scary and thrilling at the same time - scary because this project is probably the most expensive thing you'll do aside from the original purchase of your home and thrilling because the new space will be so so so wonderful.

Kieffer House: Facing reality

http://kiefferhouse.blogspot.com/2009/05/facing-reality.html

This blog is dedicated to the Kieffer House project, owned by Cynthia and Gabe, designed by Spinnaker Architect, and built by Western Oregon Builders. Sunday, May 17, 2009. The new floors look great. The closet will be large enough for our clothes and some storage and will close with two swinging doors. We considered sliders and even a nice set of bi-fold doors I found online, but in the end aesthetics won out. Old lath and plaster visible in the new closet. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Kieffer House: Floors!

http://kiefferhouse.blogspot.com/2009/05/floors.html

This blog is dedicated to the Kieffer House project, owned by Cynthia and Gabe, designed by Spinnaker Architect, and built by Western Oregon Builders. Sunday, May 17, 2009. The work took just a few days, and with very little dust. The flooring upstairs is oak. We matched the existing fir downstairs, although the installer's recommendation was to install clear fir initially and allow it to age to match the existing color. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
