Lawrence Wilkes on SOA, EA, AM and CC: November 2012
http://lwsoa.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Lawrence Wilkes on SOA, EA, AM and CC. Commentary on Service Oriented Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, Application Modernization, Cloud Computing and Enterprise Mobility. Friday, 30 November 2012. The use of the term ‘Service’ is somewhat overloaded. Everyone will have heard or used the terms Business Services, IT Services, Software Services, and now Cloud Services, and yet often there is much confusion and misunderstanding in their use. As my colleague David Sprott. Posted by Lawrence Wilkes.

Lawrence Wilkes on SOA, EA, AM and CC. Commentary on Service Oriented Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, Application Modernization, Cloud Computing and Enterprise Mobility. Friday, 17 June 2011. The Service Oriented Cloud. As well as the PaaS and IaaS capabilities provided by AWS or Microsofts Azure for example, there are also SaaS capabilities provided by the likes of salesforce.com that can be consumed as software services. Hence the concept of the Service Oriented Cloud. Posted by Lawrence Wilkes.

http://mayo-soa.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Service Oriented Modernization - Dave Mayo. Tuesday, February 1, 2011. The missing piece in Federal IT reform. 1 Reduce the cost of IT infrastructure (1,2,3,20). 2 Modernize government IT acquisition and contracting (4,5,13,16,25). 3 Reduce IT risks through better program management (7,8,12). 4 Identify and implement IT best practices (9,10,11,14,24). 5 Promote shared services and modular development (6,15,17). 6 Align processes for capital investment, budgeting and modular development (17, 18, 19, 20).
Service Oriented Modernization - Dave Mayo: February 2009
http://mayo-soa.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Service Oriented Modernization - Dave Mayo. Thursday, February 19, 2009. With all the talk these days about how “SOA is dead,” one might wonder: What does it really mean and what could have killed it? Yes, there has been disillusionment, but there are also examples of great success. From where I sit, I see the difference as a mismatch between SOA definitions and expectations. Let me explain. So, for purposes of this discussion, the question is: is what is being promised the same as what is expected?
Service Oriented Modernization - Dave Mayo: January 2009
http://mayo-soa.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Service Oriented Modernization - Dave Mayo. Tuesday, January 20, 2009. Anybody recently tell you that SOA is an IT integration technology? Don’t believe it. SOA’s biggest selling point is agility. And you don’t get that from an integration technology. SOA is actually architecture. SOA can be applied to an organization (even one devoid of IT). We can then map the incoming products and services to outgoing products and services by defining processes that consist of steps in transforming inputs to outputs.

SOA Process: Business Concepts and Business Types
http://soaprocess.blogspot.com/2009/05/business-concepts-and-business-types.html
Sunday, May 3, 2009. Business Concepts and Business Types. One thing I keep getting asked why the CBDI Service Architecture and Engineering. Method distinguishes between the Business Concept Model (describing things as they are in the real world) and the Business Type Model (describing things as they are represented within the enterprise systems). Here's a simple example. As I mention in my post Will Libraries Survive? There is a conceptual difference between book title and book copy. If we assume that t...

SOA Process: MODAF Version 1.2
http://soaprocess.blogspot.com/2008/07/modaf-version-12.html
Tuesday, July 22, 2008. MODAF Version 1.2. A new version of MODAF has just appeared, which puts MODAF firmly ahead of other enterprise architecture frameworks in terms of its support for SOA. Http:/ www.modaf.org.uk/. This clearly goes further than the latest version of DoDAF (a roughly similar framework produced by the US Department of Defense), which has a single view for Systems and Services, and no Strategic View. Expects that "too many players" will produce a "mixed-up world". Single Point of Failur...

Service Oriented Modernization - Dave Mayo: Architecture Owned Code
http://mayo-soa.blogspot.com/2013/12/architecture-owned-code.html
Service Oriented Modernization - Dave Mayo. Sunday, December 15, 2013. In years past, architecture provided guidelines and directives (often in the form of a reference architecture) and developers either complied or they didn’t. Governance was applied after the fact – certifying that a product was in compliance with the architecture (what a surprise – it almost always was! So, what does this have to do with Architecture Owned Code (AOC), you might ask? To leverage this common Enterprise-specific platform...
