Live from Kenya: January 2008
http://justineinkenya.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 1, 2008. Truth be told, much of my internship centered around corruption. Kenya is still a very tribal country and the ethnic battles are terrible beyond words. I saw corruption at its peak and today it's hard to joyfully bring in the new year, knowing that people are being shot within a mile radius of where I lived and that the streets I walked and enjoyed everyday are now deserted only occupied and tightly controlled by riot police. Live from Kenya: Out of Kenya and into the Developed Motherland
http://justineinkenya.blogspot.com/2007/12/out-of-kenya-and-into-developed.html
Tuesday, December 18, 2007. Out of Kenya and into the Developed Motherland. Reverting back to something so far from whatever that was won't be easy. But hey, no one said it would be, and once again, why do we always go around looking for things that will be easy? I've become a wee bit more cynical than I expected, but I haven't lost hope. There are things that scare the heck out of me about this kind of work, yet I hope to come back to it soon. Posted by Justine Ann. December 18, 2007 at 5:10 PM. I am so...

Live from Kenya: February 2008
http://justineinkenya.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 23, 2008. I have left this blog a long while and have been told that it is in need of an update. Well I've been out of Kenya for over 2 months and it has been strange. I miss my life there and the learning that took place. I still grapple. It's been frustrating to read the BBC news and see what has become of Kisumu, the streets I used to walk. I left 10 days before the elections and was not surprised but definitely disappointed by what became of it. Posted by Justine Ann.
Live from Kenya: November 2007
http://justineinkenya.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 29, 2007. About 2 weeks left? Below are a random collection of recent photos. I wish I could reveal all the pictures I've taken but for now this will have to do. Sorry for the bad lighting in some of them. I think the camera was a bit damaged after the wild rain storm in Uganda. A group of school children who we stopped to say hello to and hear a song they had prepared for Dr. Charlotte. A rare sight here actually: a camel in the country side. The group of my new farmer friends. Appare...

Live from Kenya: October 2007
http://justineinkenya.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 26, 2007. The majority of 'boda boda' drivers here (young men with rickety bicycles and big padded seats for their passenger) do not get enough nutrients in a day to do their job of carrying people. But they have no choice. If you're black you pay 10 bob (about 15 cents) for a ride almost anywhere, even 5 kilometers. Lately I take boda boda everywhere. I'm a bit of a softy and I usually pay them the tripled price they ask for, but why not? I thought about sometimes. The whole experience w...

Live from Kenya: Finishing Up....
http://justineinkenya.blogspot.com/2007/12/finishing-up.html
Thursday, December 6, 2007. This morning I made 4 litres of the best fruit juice you've ever had. I am staying in my dutch friend Ellen's house for the remaining time while she is away and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of her place very much. She has a great blender that I put pawpaw fruit, oranges, mangoes and a pineapple into and it was beautiful. Or a man challenging me, "Coro Madam? I'm beginning to form a thesis for my final paper on how the roots of poverty are deeply relational. At first I d...
