Portland and onwards: the adventure ends. Rather than deal with the visit chronologically I might show some aspects of Portland and then the family we had come so far to visit. The street from our place to our son’s and back became very familiar. We found the constant traffic lights that changed to green just ahead of the ca...A few o...

Paris; Ahh, Paris! 5 The last few days. For me, the view from behind is also lovely, with the spires in contrast with each other and the flying buttresses evident. The green square of John XXIII is always quite peaceful. This time they had a tent and telescopes set up as there are falcons nesting near the north rose window....Then to I...

Lost in Europe: 2009. Friday, October 23, 2009. The glory of Granada. Photos are clickable for a larger view). Troglodyte houses near the road. We dropped the car at the airport and took a taxi to our hotel which was the very pleasant Hotel Abadia, an Andalucian courtyard hotel with charming and multilingual staff that was almost in the centre of the old town. How did that happen? Ploughed earth looking like the Crete Senese. How do they DO that? They climb like spiders, upside down at times). This area w...

It also has a huge number of souvenir shops and many tourists there during the day, especially Japanese tour groups for some reason. It was Wednesday. We visited the restore...

The apartment was a decent walk from Campo dei Fiori and we quickly learned to take the little green Trambus if we wanted to go any distance. The E4.00 daily transport pass did us very well for what we wanted. The campo had lovely markets each morning and a lively crowd in the evening. Pantheon dome and oculus. Detail, Triumphal arch.
