lynnbooth Travel Blog 2008 Hong Kong, France to the USA

Lynnbooth Travel Blog 2008 Hong Kong, France to the USA. Friday, August 22, 2008. The end is nigh; almost home. A few more American States: Washington and Hawaii. We took a side trip to Mt St Helens, Mt Rainier and Seattle during the week in Portland. The travel up in the Mustang was smooth and the drive through the National Monument parks was lovely, with timber of pine and spruce, river beds carved by massive spring floods carrying loads of white stones and pretty waterfalls. Alexander's B&B Mt Rainier.

lynnbooth Travel Blog 2008 Hong Kong, France to the USA: Encore Provence

http://www.lynnbooth.blogspot.com/2008/08/encore-provence.html

Lynnbooth Travel Blog 2008 Hong Kong, France to the USA. Wednesday, August 13, 2008. L'Isle sur la Sorgue to Moustiers St Marie to Menton. The route from L'Isle took us close to Silvacane Abbey, another Cistercian Abbey. It was most peaceful with a simplicity that invokes reverence. Well in the cloister garden. La Bastide de Paradou. The chapel and star up high. A pretty place, full of tourist shops selling the local china called faience, cafes selling ice cream and artists selling their paintings. A...

lynnbooth Travel Blog 2008 Hong Kong, France to the USA: Into Paris

http://www.lynnbooth.blogspot.com/2008/08/into-paris.html

Lynnbooth Travel Blog 2008 Hong Kong, France to the USA. Sunday, August 17, 2008. The drive into Paris was long and slow, through dormitory towns and suburbs. Then returning the car at the Gare du Nord was more difficult that we expected and we finally found all the rental car places six floors down in the parking station. Then a cab to pick up the apartment keys and a trip to our apartment just off the Champs Elysee. Our apartment 4th floor, corner. View to Eiffel Tower. Other impressionist paintings ar...

http://www.lynnbooth.blogspot.com/2008/08/approaching-paris.html

Lynnbooth Travel Blog 2008 Hong Kong, France to the USA. Friday, August 15, 2008. Besancon to Vezelay to Troyes. The Romanesque basilica of the Madeline has extraordinary light inside. And a beautiful tympanum (the bit over the door) outside of Christ in Majesty and the last judgement. The angel weighing the souls is being closely watched by the devil who just possibly is trying to tip the scales his way. Adam and Eve Capital. Then we revisited Pontigny abbey which is a serene Cistercian building floatin...

Lynnbooth Travel Blog 2008 Hong Kong, France to the USA. Friday, August 22, 2008. To Boston and Beyond. Into America, friends and family. Coast houses and lobster floats. The evening in Rockport was spent walking up Bearskin Neck and photographing the harbour, then eating on the patio of a pretty restaurant at the end of the point, My Place by the Sea. We did protest though, when they offered duck breast; too much, too often, in France! We were in Boston to celebrate the first wedding anniversary of our ...

On the Road Again: 2011. Our 2011 trip through Istanbul, Greece, France and home via the USA. Remember, you can click on each picture to enlarge it. Tuesday, July 12, 2011. Portland and onwards: the adventure ends. Rather than deal with the visit chronologically I might show some aspects of Portland and then the family we had come so far to visit. The street from our place to our son’s and back became very familiar. We found the constant traffic lights that changed to green just ahead of the ca...A few o...

Paris; Ahh, Paris! 5 The last few days. For me, the view from behind is also lovely, with the spires in contrast with each other and the flying buttresses evident. The green square of John XXIII is always quite peaceful. This time they had a tent and telescopes set up as there are falcons nesting near the north rose window....Then to I...

The road to the hotel was neatly edged around the lava flow. View from our window. Flags and clothes in a cave in the rock. No idea how people get there. An entry painting and one on the terrace give some idea of the brilliance. Icon in the entry passage. View of Kalambaka from the terrace. Hotel door and lobby.

On the Road Again: 2011. Our 2011 trip through Istanbul, Greece, France and home via the USA. Remember, you can click on each picture to enlarge it. Saturday, July 9, 2011. Zurich: The last of Europe. We derived some amusement from signs in the trams, especially the one about destroying the seats. The trams themselves were very modern and roomy, with articulated carriages and frequent arrivals. Zurich from the bridge at the lake front, Fraumunster and St Peters to the left, Grossmunster to the right.

Lost in Europe: 2009. Friday, October 23, 2009. The glory of Granada. Photos are clickable for a larger view). Troglodyte houses near the road. We dropped the car at the airport and took a taxi to our hotel which was the very pleasant Hotel Abadia, an Andalucian courtyard hotel with charming and multilingual staff that was almost in the centre of the old town. Cool and welcoming, though the later downpour made getting back to our room quite difficult. That passed. Courtyard of the hotel. Fretted windows ...

Lost in Europe: 2009: Sevilla enchants us

http://lynnnnick.blogspot.com/2009/10/sevilla.html

Lost in Europe: 2009. Saturday, October 24, 2009. Click on photos to enlarge). We were recommended to take a bus rather than train to Sevilla as they were more frequent. That was fine but there were queues at the bus station for tickets, so if you do that, allow plenty of time. I wondered at the older trees that had become three or four trunks instead of one. How did that happen? Ploughed earth looking like the Crete Senese. How do they DO that? They climb like spiders, upside down at times). This area w...

Lost in Europe: 2009. Tuesday, October 27, 2009. The last leg; Cordoba and Madrid. Click on photos to enlarge). People recommend making Cordoba a day trip from Seville but we decided to stay two nights and get a feel for the place. We were glad we did as it is a sweet town to explore and has a number of nice restaurants and bars. It also has a huge number of souvenir shops and many tourists there during the day, especially Japanese tour groups for some reason. It was Wednesday. We visited the restore...

Lost in Europe: 2009. Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Into Rome forthe final week in Italy, and a short return visit. Click on photos to enlarge). Lake Vico from our table. The apartment was a decent walk from Campo dei Fiori and we quickly learned to take the little green Trambus if we wanted to go any distance. The E4.00 daily transport pass did us very well for what we wanted. The campo had lovely markets each morning and a lively crowd in the evening. Pantheon dome and oculus. Detail, Triumphal arch.
