The Well Read Rabbit Katherine Battersby. A blog about writing and illustrating for children. And, of course, rabbits. What do you write? Words mostly. Often in the form of picture books and mid-grade / young adult novels but also articles, blog posts and sometimes even shopping lists. I love fantasies, grand adventures, whimsy, melancholy and all light and shade. I also adore humour (much silliness happens at my desk). Where do your ideas come from? Have you had anything published? Do you have any pets?

Poetry and tips by…. Children's poet – Jackie Hosking. A little bit about me…. Writing in verse is not as easy as it may first appear. There are three parts to writing publishable verse…. Your story or your theme is the most important element. Next comes the meter or the rhythm of your verse. The rhyme should be incidental, an added bonus, not the main player. Too many overused words…. Came, went, walk, sat etc. Poetry is an economical medium. If someone is walking, how are they walking? As black as night.
