Jill's Crazy Life: Yes, I'm alive.
http://jillmoss.blogspot.com/2009/06/yes-im-alive.html
Sunday, June 14, 2009. Yes, I'm alive. Thanks to all the people who have asked where the heck I've been. The truth is, life got a little overwhelming and something had to give. The blog was the easiest thing to let go. After all, the kids still have to eat and work still has to get done. Toast with jam (we opened some plum jam I made a year or so ago and everyone is loving it). Cereal with strawberries from the garden. Scrambled eggs with toast. Bagels with cream cheese and lunch meat. I'm also planning ...

http://jillmoss.blogspot.com/2008/06/making-bread-101.html
Thursday, June 12, 2008. When talking about ways to lower your food budget, one thing that comes up over and over again is making your own bread. It is true, making your own bread is. So my family is getting some whole grains. But this isn't the real reason I bake bread. The real reason I bake bread? So here it is, with photo illustrations taken by me: Bread Making 101. The recipe I used for these loaves of bread is Grandma Bread. Mix in a bowl:. 2 1/2 c. warm water. Just go with me on this and pretend y...
Jill's Crazy Life: Good Stuff
http://jillmoss.blogspot.com/2008/04/good-stuff.html
Monday, April 28, 2008. I made some granola today. I love making homemade granola, it makes me feel so domestic! I feel like I'm making something healthy and wholesome for my family and I'm using my food storage and getting something for a lot cheaper than I could get it at the store. Homemade granola is easy, here is the basic formula:. 1 cup wet stuff - oil, honey, melted margarine, peanut butter, corn syrup, brown sugar (add 2 TBS water for every 1/2 c. of brown sugar), vanilla. Jill's Crazy Life: Chicken Tetrazzini
http://jillmoss.blogspot.com/2009/02/chicken-tetrazzini.html
Wednesday, February 4, 2009. You remember in my last post when I said that I have a meal or two stashed in my freezer that only take 15 minutes in the microwave before they are ready to serve? This recipe is one of them. It is a kid-friendly quick meal that saves me from the local drive-thru. Here's the recipe. Think about taking some time this weekend (Safeway has boneless-skinless chicken breasts on sale this week! And making some for your freezer! Cook in a pot of salted water until tender:. 5 cups co...
Jill's Crazy Life: Soft Breadsticks
http://jillmoss.blogspot.com/2009/02/soft-breadsticks.html
Wednesday, February 25, 2009. Sometimes while I'm fixing dinner I suddenly realize that this meal would really benefit from having some bread on the side. Only, it's 15 minutes until the food is done and I haven't started any bread! Then I take a deep breath and start making Soft Breadsticks. And 15 minutes later, we have bread with dinner. All is right with the world. In a small bowl combine:. 1 1/4 c. flour. 1 1/2 tsp baking powder. Stir to combine well. Add. We always double this recipe. I have a ...

Jill's Crazy Life: Quickie Biscuits
http://jillmoss.blogspot.com/2008/11/quickie-biscuits.html
Tuesday, November 4, 2008. I love biscuits. They are my go to when I need something quick to add to meal that really seems to be missing some kind of bread. I pretty much always keep a box of Bisquick in my pantry (actually I pour a box of Bisquick into a Tupperware container in my pantry, but whatever). So I had to come up with an alternative. I turned to my trusty Bernard Clayton's New Complete Book of Breads. First, grind your own wheat. Ok, you don't have to grind your own flour. I do, but only b...
Jill's Crazy Life: Taco Stuffed Shells
http://jillmoss.blogspot.com/2008/12/taco-stuffed-shells.html
Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Because I work for a school, I have had the last week and a half off and I have another 5 days before I go back to work. I'm really enjoying the break. But I know it is going to be over before I know it. I love my job! I haven't done it lately. Fry in a pan:. 2 pounds ground beef (this time I'm going to try a vegetarian substitute). When it hamburger is done, add enough taco seasoning to make it "taco-y" enough for you. The original recipe (from Quick Cooking. When done, tos...
Jill's Crazy Life: Mega-Cooking
http://jillmoss.blogspot.com/2009/01/mega.html
Tuesday, January 27, 2009. Sorry for the delay in posting this. It is finals week for my teenagers and my computer keeps getting stolen for paper-writing and researching. My favorite way to keep my food budget low and keep myself sane, is mega-cooking. You've heard this referred to as Once-a-Month cooking, Freezer cooking, batch cooking, or probably other things. I'm pretty sure I started calling it Mega-Cooking after reading the book Mega-Cooking. That saves us tons. If you can't tackle that (and someti...

Lynn's Kitchen
Thursday, May 14, 2015. Oops, I'm behind! We went away to Krabi, then I got really busy, and before I know it, it's been almost a month since the last blog post. Anyway, I have not stopped cooking, but I won't recount all the recipes in the past few weeks. I will just highlight a few standout dishes. First up, I've finally found my perfect roast pork loin recipe. It's from the Barefoot Contessa. One of my favorite chef and cookbook authors. I used prosciutto from Carecci. Thursday, April 16, 2015. We've ...

Lynn's Knitting
Thursday, September 13, 2007. Here's a picture of my latest hat. It's a takeoff on the Tamtopper pattern. With adjustments based on using different yarn, and running out of yarn too soon. It fits my 23 inch head, but because of the stretchiness of the band, it may be one size fits all. Here are instructions for the hat I ended up with:. For the next round of sari silk, increase one stitch for every 3, taking a round from 96 to 128 stitches. I was lazy and used yarn over increases, but *knit 2, knit i...
