Following a Dream: Darwin - The Arrival
http://lynrudy.blogspot.com/2008/04/darwin-arrival.html
Darwin - The Arrival. Well almost a year has passed since we first arrived in Darwin, the actual date 4th June. We arrived after a 3.30am start from Cape Don about 100nm north of Darwin. We looked set for a wonderful ride into Darwin or so we thought. The stars sparkled in the still waters of Popham bay as we prepared to set off. By mid afternoon Darwin City skyline was well in view we motored past Fannie Bay, the many cruising boats expected had started gathering. A beautiful bay that will become ou...
Following a Dream: The Money Trail - Destination Darwin
http://lynrudy.blogspot.com/2008/03/money-trail-destination-darwin.html
The Money Trail - Destination Darwin. The Money Trail – Destination Darwin…. It is recommended the passage be navigated at around slack water. With slack water turning east about 5½ hours before High Water Gove and maximum flow at 1½ hours before High Water Gove.* Did you get that…? Croc Skull and Cone Shells. East of the beach we found a river, the entrance was bubbling with fish most of which were big mullet. There’s something mysterious as you delve into the depths of these little off shoots...Our nex...
Following a Dream: The Money Trail – Cairns to Gove
http://lynrudy.blogspot.com/2008/02/money-trail-cairns-to-gove.html
The Money Trail – Cairns to Gove. The Money Trail – Cairns to Gove. Three months sitting out the wet season we were ready to set sail. We’d spent the time in Cairns enjoying the beautiful area from the coast to the hinterland, we relished the long hard rains that refreshed and revitalised the area - the greens so rich, the water was abundant, the rivers and falls so full - everything is so alive it’s a great time to enjoy Cairns. We’d been assured there were no snakes on Lizard. I’m afrai...Then we reali...
Following a Dream: Cairns and the Whitsundays
http://lynrudy.blogspot.com/2008/02/cruising-cairns-and-whitsundays.html
Cairns and the Whitsundays. Cruising Cairns and the. Along the way we saw our first Cassowary in the wild, what an amazing bird. We stopped off at some beautiful falls all of which full, invigorating and just a short walk from the road. From there we made our way to Ravenshoe which has Queensland largest wind farm, giving power to about 3500 houses, it is an awesome sight to drive over the hill to be faced by these slow turning giants. We were up just before lunch and as we knew of a great café just off ...

Gary and Mags: March 2007
http://garyandmags.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
Nothing better to do? Follow us on our amazing and implausible journies around the globe. Wednesday, March 28, 2007. Queensland, as hot as chip fat. We flew north to visit Glenys and her boys Zak and Adam. We generally hung out for a week basking in the sunshine and relaxing. We helped Glenys celebrate her? Birthday on the 6th March and received some wonderful news from home where our niece Leah had given birth to Sarah Louise in the same day, making Mags a Great Auntie – but don’t tell anyone. We spent ...
Gary and Mags: September 2014
http://garyandmags.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Nothing better to do? Follow us on our amazing and implausible journies around the globe. Wednesday, September 17, 2014. We decided to take a mini break from our big break. This was prompted by British Airways writing to us informing us that we’d lose our air miles if we didn’t use them soon. We checked out destinations from City Airport and chose Stockholm. I hadn’t been this far north before and I could feel my hair becoming blonder as we neared our destination. We lunched at Omermalmstorg Saluhall in ...

Nothing better to do? Follow us on our amazing and implausible journies around the globe. Monday, September 12, 2011. We finally arrived after the endless flight. I started to fret that the Aussies might regain the Ashes before I arrived. I’d only come to rub it in. We booked a day trip on a small plane visiting some of the local attractions. First stop Windjana Gorge in the Napier range ( www.kimberleyaustralia.com/windjana-gorge-national-park.html. The scenic flight back took us over countless tiny isl...
Gary and Mags: June 2014
http://garyandmags.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Nothing better to do? Follow us on our amazing and implausible journies around the globe. Friday, June 06, 2014. We’re now back home where the weather is 23 and sunny, just like Sydney. I achieved a lifetime ambition earlier today due to the jet lag, I arrived at Borough market early, and had a pint in the Market Porter before early closing at 9am. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Gary and Mags: June 2011
http://garyandmags.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Nothing better to do? Follow us on our amazing and implausible journies around the globe. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. We bade a fond farewell to the U S of A and flew up to the Rockies (Adrian! We’re at Banff, after a brief orientation stop in Calgary. We’re now back to ordering two mains at restaurants instead of sharing one, as was the practice south of the border. Sunday, June 12, 2011. Magical Mystery Tour - Part 2. We were more fortunate on our next outing and had a wonderful hour among the spectacular ...

Nothing better to do? Follow us on our amazing and implausible journies around the globe. Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Down and out in Paris. Wandering around the Morais, nudging Mags past ‘cute’ boutiques, it occurred to me that Paris must have 90% of the world’s population of wicker chairs all spread invitingly on the pavements welcoming visitors for a leisurely vin rouge or two. Yes, we’re in Paris for the weekend, a well deserved break for Mags after a week or two of hard labour in Canary Wharf. After a ...
Gary and Mags: May 2011
http://garyandmags.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Nothing better to do? Follow us on our amazing and implausible journies around the globe. Saturday, May 21, 2011. Were now on the mystery part of our trip as we haven’t booked anything until we land in Canada, so were going to set off this morning heading roughly north and see what we find. Hopefully Oregon and then Washington unless things have changed recently. Tuesday, May 17, 2011. Wednesday, May 04, 2011. Unfortunately for us, the Pacific Highway, which runs along the coast to San Francisco, was clo...
Gary and Mags: July 2014
http://garyandmags.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Nothing better to do? Follow us on our amazing and implausible journies around the globe. Wednesday, July 09, 2014. Stage 1 St. Bees to Ennerdale Bridge 23.5 km (14.5 miles). First you have to get to the start, which is St, Bees on the Cumbrian coast. For us this was a fast train to Carlisle and then a two carriage country train that trundles along with the novelty of request stops. It ran into St Bees eventually after a pretty journey along the coast. We ran into the Texans (How y’all) in the pub ...
Gary and Mags: April 2011
http://garyandmags.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Nothing better to do? Follow us on our amazing and implausible journies around the globe. Wednesday, April 27, 2011. It’s hot, hot, hot here with the mercury approaching 90F. Naturally, this requires frequent refreshment. We found a very cooling Mexican place serving wonderful Margueritas so we settled in there for a few hours. The restaurants here have water pipes spraying a fine mist onto the diners outside to keep everyone cool, very impressive considering we’re in the desert. Saturday, April 16, 2011.
Gary and Mags: March 2009
http://garyandmags.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Nothing better to do? Follow us on our amazing and implausible journies around the globe. Tuesday, March 10, 2009. We did manage a very strange meal in Palermo as we found a Chinese restaurant and, after 3 weeks of Italian food, we fancied a change. The meal was mostly memorable for the surreal experience of ordering Chinese food in Italian. We really must get a pack of cards. Sunday, March 01, 2009. Cantania is on the east coast of Sicily facing the Ionian sea and nestled in the shadow of Mount Etna, Eu...

Tuesday, January 10, 2017. When you need a little more patience. This past weekend we took a family get away to an indoor water park. It is always a wonderful time, but very tiring. We had several meals together, spent some time in the evening playing games and then raced around with the kids at the water park for the rest of the time. I just looked back and we have gone to this park every year since 2011 - except for 2014 when Anna was born in January! As the time ticked away, I found myself getting mor...
