Musings in the æther. Thursday, 9 July 2009. Madikeri ಲಿ ಮಂಜು and er. poetry. One of the best memories of my school days is listening to Mysore Ananthaswamy singing this song in the Jayanagar 8th block Ramanavami programmes. When he sang this, there was a hush and the very air around us seemed to turn cool, even though it was summer! ತುತ್ತೂರಿ. ಮಡಿಕೆರೀಲಿ. The farm is actually a coffee plantation. On t...

Musings in the æther: April 2009
http://musingsinthether.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Musings in the æther. Wednesday, 29 April 2009. Samsung NC10 and Kailasam. I am typing this post on my new Samsung NC10. OK, one of the main reasons I started this blog was to get an opportunity to crow about my new lap top. I tried extolling its virtues to my wife, who was unimpressed. My work colleagues listened politely, but I could see their eyes glazing over after the first hour. But I've got you. Hooked, dear reader! Eat your hearts out, all of you. Except people who own a MacBook. A few weekends a...

Everything Over The Moon: June 2011
http://everythingoverthemoon.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Everything Over The Moon. Everything Under the Sun? Or Over the Moon? Saturday, June 25, 2011. Day 03 - Gangtok. The next day started with a good omen. As soon as we got up, had a bath and went out to the dining room for breakfast, we saw Mount. Kanchenjunga. There it was in all its glory, right in front of the dining room door. After clicking photos and eating breakfast, we left for Gangtok, the main destination of our trip. Mount Kanchenjunga from The Swiss Hotel. See my picasa web album. We got up, go...

Musings in the æther: August 2009
http://musingsinthether.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Musings in the æther. Sunday, 30 August 2009. Around two years ago, I was in the Achamore gardens on the island of Gigha. I was still new to my Nikon D50, and was looking for things to photograph. Amongst other things in the unique Achamore Gardens, a bright pink flower caught my eye, and I snapped it. Looking back I now feel it was a very clumsy attempt at a "macro" or a close up photograph. Neither could I recognise a Fuchsia when I saw one. The Glasgow and District Fuchsia Society. Hope you like them&...

Musings in the æther: Tales from Saraswathipura - Dhavala, the white horse
http://musingsinthether.blogspot.com/2012/02/tales-from-saraswathipura-dhavala-white.html
Musings in the æther. Monday, 27 February 2012. Tales from Saraswathipura - Dhavala, the white horse. Which story. ajji pondered. Dhavala! Came the answer in unison. And Dhavala's story it was. My dad liked horses, ajji said, and Dhavala even more so. He was a white horse, pure white. Not a dark spot, not a blemish, the kind that the Maharajas ride. And what's more, Dhavala was the smartest horse that I have ever seen. Now, what takes me back to that day, what makes me sigh at those fond memories? Not ju...

Musings in the æther: May 2009
http://musingsinthether.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Musings in the æther. Wednesday, 6 May 2009. One day in the life of a PLAB aspirant. In 1997, I left the comfortable, well paid job I had, left the comfort of my homeland, my people and came to work in the UK. The first step in this direction was to pass PLAB. A qualifying test that foreign doctors need to pass if they intend to work in the UK. I soon found myself in East London, the home of PLABers. From the subcontinent. Several. PLAB aspirants lived there, and prepared for PLAB. And access ' PLAB.

Musings in the æther: June 2015
http://musingsinthether.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Musings in the æther. Monday, 1 June 2015. It takes two to tango, two hands to clap - unless you are a Zen master. And it takes two to conduct a dialogue. I started the car and we made our way down the narrow spiral ramp down the car park in silence, negotiating the curves with practiced ease. While we waited at the first lights, I sighed - Its not like you are a real person. There was a pause and he said - You are talking to me. And you seem to think I am a he. You can read my thoughts, now? Remember th...
