Fear and Loathing in Linguere. A Savage Journey Into the Heart of Senegal. Posted by: Writing Advisor MacAfee. March 30, 2013. What I like about hot season…. This is a tough one. It’s hard to get past the initial, knee-jerk reaction to the heat. What is there to love about afternoons spent lying on a mat trying not to let any one part of your body touch another? The sand kicked up by your flip flops burning your feet? The ever-present threat of heat exhaustion? 8221; Garrison Keiller. You are commenting ...

Fear and Loathing in Linguere. A Savage Journey Into the Heart of Senegal. Posted by: Writing Advisor MacAfee. March 3, 2013. One Week… Two very different parties. The baby was named after the woman in the center. Getting ready to enjoy our Laax and Soow. The cows come in to Poram to get water. They came in to fill up their cans. Got their stunna shades on. It was a fun day, lots of laax and sow (yogurt and porridge, traditional baptism food) and singing and dancing in honor of the new momma. Notify me o...

This Senegalese Life: After the Sunset

http://thissenegaleselife.blogspot.com/2013/06/after-sunset.html

Saturday, June 22, 2013. It’s been almost two months since I left Senegal as a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, and a final wrap-up post of some kind seems long overdue. And with having supportive friends and family back home. Many thanks all around! Now, after what was quite possibly the best vacation ever, I am in Conakry, Guinea, preparing to start a Peace Corps Response position. If you’re interested, my new Guinea-focused blog is called The Kankan Express ("kahn-kahn"). January 26, 2015 at 4:20 AM.

Most evenings one of my host sisters or host moms will make gosi. At other people's houses, usually for breakfast, but the stuff that my host family makes is really good, almost like African rice pudding. Which is sweetened ric...

Friday, April 19, 2013. The True American Rainbow. There is a television show called New Girl. And on that show they play a game called True American. This Senegalese Life: October 2012

http://thissenegaleselife.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 22, 2012. Back in August my amazing grandmother (with lots of support from my equally amazing mother and family) decided to celebrate her birthday by hosting a lovely tea party to benefit the latrine-building project I’d proposed. She called it a Privy Party and it was a resounding success. She raised so much money that I was able to expand the project, increasing the number of latrines that we’ll be able to build. I can only hope that the latrines. Marielle and I walking; kids playing wi...

Sarah l'égaré en Senegal. A chronicle of my life as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Saturday, March 8, 2014. International Women’s Day 2014. On the way back to Dakar from Thies today, one of our Peace Corps doctors asked me if I ever thought about everything I’d learned since coming to Senegal. Accidentally took with my ipod.
