Now with even more cowbell…. Solve volume down button not working on iPhone 5. I noticed this morning that my volume down button (-) wasn't working on my iPhone 5 running iOS 7. Pushing the physical button in didn't change the volume. The volume up button increased the volume successfully still. Fearing a physical button issue at this point, I turned to google for suggestions on what else to try. Running across this thread. On Apple's discussion forums, I tried out the solution in there. In my case, foll...

IPhone Development is Fun! May 10, 2009. It’s been a while since I completed my first iPhone development project, and I figured I’d finally write up my initial experience with this platform. A bit late, but better than never. To put this into perspective, here’s a brief summary of my previous professional programming background:. I worked with C back in University but quickly adopted Java in 1998 and never looked back (good riddance to pointers and manual memory management! The other Objective-C oddity i...

Blog of a Rails Developer. Using MacRuby to Write a .qif File Converter. I heard about the MacRuby. Project not too long ago and was quite excited about it for several reasons, the first is that although it’s early days yet and version 0.4 doesn’t cover the full ruby spec, it’s showing signs of being a well performing ruby implementation. Others. Of course, nothing illustrates this quite as well as seeing how short a sample (trivial). Program is when written with MacRuby and HotCocoa:. Writing Your Own R...

Random thoughts of a software developer. Learning from Rails’ failures. Posted by Matt Aimonetti. On February 29th, 2012. This is for me, by far, the biggest issue with Rails and something that should have been fixed a long time ago. If you’re using the WordPress blog engine, you know how easy and safe it is to upgrade the engine or the plugins. Granted WordPress isn’t a web dev framework, but it gives you an idea of what kind of experience we should be striving for. Stability vs playground zone. So what...

Making things better, making better things. Friday, June 10, 2011. I wrote something with MacRuby. Finally. It’s a tool. To help me post music every day. Over on my non-technical blog. The MacRuby part is that it uses iTunes to convert uncompressed audio to MP3, add metadata, and post it to my web site. And add it to my library along the way. That’s pretty cool. The script also uploads the track to my web site, but that’s straight Ruby. So if I were starting over I might use LAME. If you’re curious.
