Validity – madeline louise friend

https://madelinelouisefriend.wordpress.com/2016/07/25/validity

July 25, 2016. July 24, 2016. By Madeline Louise Friend. While floating on the Main Salmon River between Jim Moore Place and Bucksin Bill’s. I wrote this poem slowly in my head, waiting for the river and landscape to whisper to me. The validity of river. Is only a question of time. And time has nothing but river. To soothe its wily mind. Sticks and stones of yonder. Whisper secrets to the green. Of pearly waves and cloud-splashed daze. Mossy rocks and bald eagle tops. Envelop above and below.

In The Beginning – madeline louise friend

https://madelinelouisefriend.wordpress.com/2016/08/02/in-the-beginning

August 2, 2016. October 1, 2016. By Madeline Louise Friend. I mostly prayed for the Transmilenio. Bright red behemoth bus. To arrive marginally on time. One minute. Let it come in one minute. And it always did. But later, once I learned the ebb and flow of non-existent schedules, and that the flashing letters listing 7 min really meant 2 or 5 or 8 or 9 or 12 or 30 seconds or eternity or never,. I learned to harness power:. The entropy of time. I learned when to be resilient and when to relent,. Bogotá en...

What, Really, Are Rapids For? – madeline louise friend

https://madelinelouisefriend.wordpress.com/2016/09/07/what-really-are-rapids-for

What, Really, Are Rapids For? September 7, 2016. By Madeline Louise Friend. The author rows Vinegar Rapid on the Main Salmon River in Idaho. Photo by Thomas Gotchy. Late August on the Main Salmon punches the somewhat smoky air with bursts of laughter, sunshine, and of course splashes. By mid-afternoon, it’s warmed up. Enough for me to invite a few playful bubbles to curl gracefully over the edge of my boat. Two hours and two (three? Get stoked for rapids! Do you mind being the only kid on this trip?

I Follow The River – madeline louise friend

https://madelinelouisefriend.wordpress.com/2016/09/04/i-follow-the-river

I Follow The River. September 4, 2016. September 4, 2016. By Madeline Louise Friend. I follow the river. Through steep mountain slices. Warped like sparks in my soul. But this time the river runs seemingly uphill. And the gorges roll on unperturbed. Instead of obscuring their interior. I follow the river. Until I find it,. My spunky sense of youth. Where days of play stretch on and on. And water is swirly truth. I follow the river. As summer slips by. In the most delightful way:. I follow the river.

Supermoon – County 22

https://jordanarobinson.wordpress.com/2015/09/01/supermoon

Nature, Community, Nature, Art, and Music in the West. September 1, 2015. December 3, 2015. Using a slower shutter, I was able to get the light bouncing off of the clouds as the moon made it’s way into the high sky. With my tripod set up, I was able to trace the moon’s path as it moved across my frame. But the moon is a really bright object (especially a Supermoon! And it turned out as a crazy glowing white orb in these photos. I wanted to see if I could get a more realistic shot of it. Notify me of new ...

Instant Gratification – County 22

https://jordanarobinson.wordpress.com/2015/11/06/instant-gratification

Nature, Community, Nature, Art, and Music in the West. November 6, 2015. There are exactly 9 inches of snow in my yard. I know because I took a tape measure outside this morning and I checked. Yesterday morning there was none. Three days after I post a call for snow, it has been answered! How deep was it? Everything made it sound skiable, so we packed up the Explorer with 3 sets of skiing equipment, 1 snowboard, 3 dogs, and 4 people, and headed up the hill. Sunrise glow over Teton Pass. Tagg in the snow.

Fall in Grand Teton National Park – County 22

Nature, Community, Nature, Art, and Music in the West. October 2, 2015. December 3, 2015. Fall in Grand Teton National Park. Fall is easily the most magical time in the Tetons. Nights cool off, tourists go home, and animals start preparing themselves for the long winter ahead. To celebrate the end of summer, and a couple very needed days off, I drove through GTNP at sunset to see the changing phenology and enjoy the nice weather. For bears, fall means entering a phase called ‘hyperphagia’ whe...One of my...

Nature, Community, Nature, Art, and Music in the West. September 11, 2015. September 11, 2015. For as often as I was at the top of Fred’s Mountain last winter, I hadn’t been all summer. I started mountain biking a few weeks ago up at Targhee, but am relegated to the cross country trails because of my beginner status and fully-rigid bike. Yesterday was the day to change that, and head up the lift for the first time without ski gear on. Looking back over Teton Valley. Ancient Sea Shells and Coral. County 2...

Nature, Community, Nature, Art, and Music in the West. October 1, 2015. October 1, 2015. My life is beautiful right now. I have everything I need and manage to stay away from too many unnecessary worries and troubles. I live in the mountains surrounded by incredible support system of kind, caring, energetic, and hilarious friends. But still, for a while I’ve felt like there was one little piece missing. Here’s us at 10,715. Hopefully there are many more summits to come for us. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Holding Pattern – County 22

https://jordanarobinson.wordpress.com/2015/11/03/holding-pattern

Nature, Community, Nature, Art, and Music in the West. November 3, 2015. For those of us who live clipped into bindings during the winter, that is not good enough. We wait for the temperatures to plummet and to wake up to a blanketed valley. The only solace has been that it’s been snowing in the high country. All week I’ve been waiting for a glimpse of the peaks painted white, and today it finally happened! This afternoon we got a few hours of sunshine and blue sky. The Middle trying to show its face.

Nature, Community, Nature, Art, and Music in the West. September 3, 2015. Some wishful thinking, as I’m waiting for leaves to change, snow to fall, and winter to come back. Acrylic on canvas. Welcome story lovers, story tellers and friends. I grew up listening to my mother’s stories which she told over and over. We were four kids and we knew Mom’s stories by heart, but it was always fun to listen. Storytelling is what we did around the dinner table, over desert and coffee. Little by little, invitations started coming in. I was a featured teller at Stone Soup Storytelling Festival in SC and began doing house concerts that took me to the northeast. I told at The Northlands Confabulation...Givin...
