vanillabean knits: Stitched With Love
http://vanillabeanknits.blogspot.com/2009/02/stitched-with-love.html
There are some problems you can't fix. Not yourself anyway. You have to sit back, understand that you cannot possibly understand how someone may feel, and only offer thoughts and prayers. It's humbling, not knowing how to help a loved one, but just trying your best to do the right thing. I think we've all been there, and will inevitably be there often over our lives. I had to make a hang tag, which is probably my favorite part about homemade gifts. The button tab (sewn on, no button hole needed) really a...

vanillabean knits: Completed: Landscape Scarf
http://vanillabeanknits.blogspot.com/2008/07/completed-landscape-scarf.html
Is completed. What an adorable and fun project. The larger shawl isn't particularly my style, but this small triangular version would be perfect for anyone. To re-cap, I started with three Koigu mill ends, which was equal to about 1-1/2 skeins. The only change I made in the pattern was to add a picot to every row, instead of every other row. I gave it a little bath, and blocked it out slightly to shape the top edge better. My scarf's maiden voyage was at the. I love the picots on every row. i think t...

vanillabean knits: Necklace Holder...Finally
http://vanillabeanknits.blogspot.com/2010/12/neclace-holderfinally.html
I have been meaning to make a simple necklace holder for about 5 years. Just something simple, a piece of nice wood with hooks, and something in the back to mount it. How funny that when I did finally got around to making this, it only took about 2 hours. I found a gorgeous piece of wood that was 12 x 18", sanded it with our orbital sander (one of our favorite wedding gifts! And I like to joke, our tastes are maturing! If I get myself any more jewelry, Im going to need one of these! Shona LALA dex press.

vanillabean knits: Sugared Cranberries
http://vanillabeanknits.blogspot.com/2007/10/sugared-cranberries.html
Illustration Friday's topic this week is "trick or treat". This will be my non-submission participation for "treat". When I first had sugared cranberries, it was when I was still living in Florida. I had them at a party and had "just one more" fifty-seven times. You can't purchase superfine sugar in the South, so re-creating these was a lost dream. Years later, I moved to Philadelphia and. Made these little jems. Everyone loves them. Especially, Aimee. Who this recipe is really for! This recipe was from.

vanillabean knits: Purple Cables
http://vanillabeanknits.blogspot.com/2009/03/purple-cables.html
We had a cold spell in February. After the tenth time walking to work freezing my head off in a thinly knit hat (Rowan Felted Tweed), I attempted to rectify this situation. Ahhhh Warmth. Cozy. And huge! I think I love it. (Wink wink). In non-knitting news, I read The Soloist yesterday. I visited the Philadelphia Free Library to pick up books and kill time since I misplaced my housekeys (hopefully inside! And had to wait for Mike to get home. The Soloist happens to be the book that they've selected for.

vanillabean knits: Lace Ribbon Scarf
http://vanillabeanknits.blogspot.com/2008/06/lace-ribbon-scarf.html
I nearly choked myself at knitting circle last Wednesday, while stretching my unfinished. Around my neck trying to convince the girls that I was done. By the time my dinner arrived, the girls said that I could cast-off. My impatience was not because I don't love this pattern. I truly do. I would recommend this for an easy or beginner's lace project. It's easy to memorize, and knits up quickly. This was my second one in a row, so I feel that I got a bit burned out at the end. Next, I'll cast on for my.

vanillabean knits: Out of Hibernation
http://vanillabeanknits.blogspot.com/2011/03/out-of-hibernation.html
Like many of you, I have been hibernating, thus the long absence. My knitting mojo returned during the winter, and I whipped up these adorable mocassins for an old friend's new little girl. Aren't they darling? They're by Whit Van Ness. For The Purl Bee. I started and finished the Dijon Sweater. I'm so proud of myself for this sweater. It's my third one, but it actually fits very well and looks better than I anticipated. Not too shabby for this lady. That sweater is impressive. Luv it! Those little mocca...

vanillabean knits: Fall to Winter+ a Little Baking
http://vanillabeanknits.blogspot.com/2010/11/fall-to-winter-little-baking.html
Fall to Winter a Little Baking. With the frigid temperatures this week, the golden fall leaves from last week seem far away. I celebrated my 32nd birthday on November 19th! I threw myself a lovely party and invited a medley of friends from different parts of my life. I left it to them to get along, which they did! I baked apple and pear crisp, cupcakes, the. Which have become tradition), Layla's amazingly easy and addictive artichoke spinach dip, and a cake. Having learned from last years unintentional.

vanillabean knits: Never Knitting @#$% Socks - Socks
http://vanillabeanknits.blogspot.com/2010/11/never-knitting-socks-socks.html
Never Knitting @#$% Socks - Socks. The last pair of socks I knitted took me a year. Not because they were hard, but because I felt that they were sucking the life out of me for sheer boredom. I even wrote extensive notes to myself on my Ravelry page lest I make the poor decision to think I'd like knitting socks again. You can see me get more insane and melodramatic as the time passes. 10/27/2008: SOCKS = B-O-R-I-N-G. 1/22/2009: So boring I can’t even have it listed as a WIP (work in progress). I turned a...

vanillabean knits: Bits of Yellow on a Gray Day
http://vanillabeanknits.blogspot.com/2010/12/bits-of-yellow-on-gray-day.html
Bits of Yellow on a Gray Day. This is one of my favorite color studies that I did. It was a gloomy and gray day last May, and it felt like it would never warm up again. I found myself riding my bike home slightly miserably, but then I started noticing electric jolts of yellow, amarillo, chartreuse, mustard, citron, and any other name for the color of lemons you can think of. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas if you celebrate, and are also surrounded by people you love! Shona LALA dex press. This ...
