In the Shadow of His Wings: Lessons learned after an appendectomy
http://davidandchristineharms.blogspot.com/2013/06/lessons-learned-after-appendectomy.html
In the Shadow of His Wings. Lessons learned after an appendectomy. Lesson 1: if a book called "Where There is no Doctor" tells you to find a doctor. Based on your symptoms, you're in trouble. Lesson 2: if you're in the hospital on trash collection day and you live in a hot, humid climate, you should text your house helper and ask her to put it out for you. No, really; you should. In the Shadow of His Wings: Thankful Thursday
http://davidandchristineharms.blogspot.com/2014/10/thankful-thursday.html
In the Shadow of His Wings. Lots to be thankful for this week, not the least of which is a safe, uneventful flight from Haiti to Portland! That Peter *loves* to travel. Loves it. For my dad, who let me borrow my mom for the airplane rides. And my mom, too. For things that make me laugh, like this:. For this view from my midwife appointment:. For libraries, parks and fire hydrants. If you don't get this, I will draw you a picture. What are you thankful for today? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Theres...

In the Shadow of His Wings: It's not what you think
http://davidandchristineharms.blogspot.com/2014/09/it-not-what-you-think.html
In the Shadow of His Wings. Its not what you think. That's what I told Peter as I cut up plantains for dinner. "Manay! He insisted, using his made-up word for bananas. "Beet! You think you'd like some of this? Aye" (This is his word for yes. He thinks he's a pirate.) I give him a tiny taste, and the look on his face is classic. For a starchy, hard plantain is nothing like a soft, sweet banana, and that was immediately apparent to him. And that's the whole thing, isn't it? Going on, and when that becomes ...

In the Shadow of His Wings: January 2015
http://davidandchristineharms.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
In the Shadow of His Wings. The tile floor is warmer here, where I've been standing. I've been standing here for a while, thinking, sweating, sifting. Ellie is in her swing, burrito'd, Peter is asleep upstairs. Every few minutes, she opens one eye to make sure I'm still here, and I still am. For I am sifting the world's grossest flour. But would I have slowed down for anything else? Listen, there's words to what I'm listening to. Can a rich man work to save his soul? Can a rich man work to save his soul?

In the Shadow of His Wings. The coughing spells from the clouds of dust blowing down my unpaved street are over. The mosquitoes are just starting to get organized. Carnival is over and most people have gotten their crazies out.at least until July, when we do it again. My husband is happy, because we went to a computer store and paid $18 for a TV service so we can watch college basketball. But he'd be happier if my bracket wasn't doing better than his. (BURN.). And the krem mayi. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

In the Shadow of His Wings: 40 years and counting
http://davidandchristineharms.blogspot.com/2015/05/40-years-and-counting.html
In the Shadow of His Wings. 40 years and counting. I was sitting in a Subway catching up with two friends from high school over a six-inch spicy Italian. I was bemoaning the fact that I wanted to go to a friend's wedding in Spokane, but wasn't able to. The wedding was on a weekday just after we'd gotten back from a trip, and David couldn't take any more time off. They asked. "Just go by yourself.". They asked again. "Just go anyway." They were getting agitated. "You don't need his permission. They've pur...

In the Shadow of His Wings: World Cup Madness
http://davidandchristineharms.blogspot.com/2014/07/world-cup-madness.html
In the Shadow of His Wings. I was outside hanging laundry, when I heard the Argentine national anthem playing over several radios around my house. Nope, it wasn't visiting dignitaries, a parade, a coup or anything of the sort. It was World Cup Finals. Soon the sound of hundreds of people cheering went up from the ravine and surrounding neighborhoods as Germany scored. And no, there aren't many Germans here.let me explain.
