Growing up in Virginia Beach, Virginia, I spent tons of time on the beach and swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. No doubt, we have lots of water:. 11,000 inland lakes. 3,000 miles of freshwater shoreline-more than any other state in the nation. Michigan has more total shoreline than any state except Alaska. Michigan has tens of thousands of miles of rivers and streams. But we also have lots of green. 45 million acres managed by MIDNR.
