Tony's Open Eyed Scribbling. Saturday, January 25, 2014. Nothing I Can See Scares Me. What I Can't See. I’m looking into the woods from the end of my driveway. The wind is blowing due west so the pine trees beside me howl like organ pipes and do nothing to keep me sheltered. At least the wind is at my back and not stopping my breath. It’s a balmy twenty-five degrees and my hands feel relatively warm bare and taking notes for what I’ll type later. Kathy has published a book of essays titled, Bear Season.

Monday, February 24, 2014. Has every piece of this earth been recorded, stepped on? So as I'm looking at these lizards, in their five by ten foot tank, and I'm wondering, what's the point of all my thoughts? These lizards have certainly slid across every millimeter of their man-made fifty square feet, and now there's no land left to explore. Maybe we were given so much land because we weren't meant to see it all. We were meant to be able to still wonder, to imagine. He who journeyed through the airport.

Tony's Open Eyed Scribbling. Saturday, March 15, 2014. Earlier today I watched my tree from a little farther off than usual. I was very quiet and hid behind a car. I saw the culprit! It was a gray squirrel. There has never in all the years I’ve lived here been a gray squirrel in the yard. I’ve seen chipmunks and an occasional red squirrel, but no grays.
