Three Peas in a Pod: Five, finally!
http://three-peas-in-a-pod.blogspot.com/2015/03/five-finally.html
Three Peas in a Pod. Three men and a little lady. Yes, the little lady is supposed to be me. Monday, March 30, 2015. Well, I feel bad. It's been more than a month since Andrew turned five, and I'm just now getting around to posting about it. I was looking around frantically for the four horsemen of the apocalypse. They turned down doughnuts. That's how sick they were, one of those dark late February days. William attended one-half day of school in three weeks. I can't quite believe it myself. Five! Sadly,...
WORDbomb!: Hitchhiker's Cliff Notes

15 June, 2013. Create a teaching aid for the prologue and first chapter of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. The author describes our ape-descended race as “so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.” What primitive characteristics still exist within modern human beings? Ford Prefect is researching Earth for the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. What facts about Planet Earth would you want included in the Guide? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The cult of Merrell. Those of you who know my tendency to find a brand I love and stick with it will probably not be surprised that I have a new one: Merrell. I love Merrells, and I'm not the only one — read some reviews on Zappos and you'll see that there is indeed a cult of Merrell. There's a reason for it, though — the shoes are lightweight, exceedingly comfortable, and with Merrell's Q-Form technology. Extremely stable and good to walk in. I've seen tremendous improvement in my foot since I switc...

The one bag report. Ready for packing. Note: I didn't take the netbook on the end table. Last year, I attempted to travel in Europe with one wheel-less carry-on bag. It didn't go so well. Packed-up Skyway. I usually roll items to pack them as. It saves space and cuts. Down on wrinkles, but still lets you get to things quickly (I had four different. One-night stays), unlike the bundle method, which is also popular among one-baggers. I brought a large Reisenthel Mini Maxi Shopper. This could be worn either...
CHANNEL SIX: May 2011
http://channelsix.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
So it's time for Channel Six to go all travel blog again, because I just got back from a 17-day trip to England, Greece, and France. I've got 3,000 photo and video files I'm currently sorting through, so for now, just a bit on my itinerary, and five moments that really stood out. 1 Climbing the stairs at our house in Greece for the first time. View from the house. 2 The sailboats of Portsmouth. Video: Sailboats heading out. 3 Walking the Paris catacombs. After an hour and a half wait in line with tons of...
CHANNEL SIX: 5 mile test: Merrell Heather and Sundial dress
http://channelsix.blogspot.com/2011/08/5-mile-test-merrell-heather-and-sundial.html
5 mile test: Merrell Heather and Sundial dress. Merrell Heathers and a bit of my Sundial dress. In my last trip to Europe, I took a Patagonia convertible skirt/dress. That did pretty well, with one glaring issue — it was cotton, therefore easily wrinkled, and if I'd have washed it, it would have taken ages to dry. I spend a fair amount of time on Merrell.com. And while I was there, I ran across the Sundial dress. I wore it with Merrell's Heather sandals. So I set out on my favorite loop around the Jeffer...
CHANNEL SIX: Tips for Amtrak travel
http://channelsix.blogspot.com/2011/06/tips-for-amtrak-travel.html
Tips for Amtrak travel. A Northeast Regional train car. My parents recently took their first trip by train, using Amtrak to get to a Canada/New England cruise that departed from Montreal and ended in Boston. And helping them prepare got me thinking about what I've learned over the years in taking the train. 1 If it's called a "Snack Car," don't expect gourmet meals. 2 Yes, it is slower than the ideal plane time, and yes, there are delays. 3 Chemical toilets get gross after a certain amount of time. Yes, ...
CHANNEL SIX: Three five-mile tests
http://channelsix.blogspot.com/2011/10/three-five-mile-tests.html
Left to right: Merrell Barefoot Contour Glove,. Merrell Luxe Mid, Merrell Tetra Strap Waterproof. So I've had time to do some walking, but haven't managed to post about it, and I'm behind on five-mile tests. First up, in order of the photo if nothing else, was the Merrell Barefoot Contour Glove. Second in the photo is the Merrell Luxe Mid. Last in the photo and one of my favorite pairs of shoes of all time, are the Merrell Tetra Strap Waterproof. Posted by Carrie G. 5-mile test: Merrell Pace Glove, Pure Glove, and Bassoon. Lovely Rock Creek Park, site of two of my walks. It has been quite hot here in the Washington DC region, so I've mostly been on hiatus with distance walking. I had done a couple of five-mile tests awhile back, though, that I still haven't blogged about. Bassoons (with my toenails blurred because they look terrible). I've blogged about the Pure Gloves before, as I took them on my last trip to Europe. I decided they needed an actual, measured test, ...

5 mile test: Encore Breeze and Waterpro Sable. I was wearing my Merrell Encore Breezes. And very curious about whether I could remotely approach five miles in these. They're my go-to shoes when my feet are sore from walking in other. Shoes, but they fit, well, like clogs, and I don't know that walking long distances with your foot rattling around in your shoe is a good idea. Posted by Carrie G. 5 mile test: Merrell Apure Cambia. So many kites flying at the Washington Monument. Plus a Merrell Cambia.

¡Viva Ecuador!
Wednesday, May 30, 2012. So now it is my turn to say thank you to Escuela Hernán Malo González! I have had an incredible time here. While I teach the students English, they teach me everyday about Ecuador, Spanish, kindness and so much more. It also came with ¨patacones¨, pictured below. They are made by frying plantains, twice, smashing them in between. Deliciuos! All of the teachers and I, with the exception of Teacher Verito, and Teacher Erika, who I worked with the most. Tuesday, May 29, 2012. The ve...

Friday, April 11, 2008. My sewing machine is broken. I haven't taken it anywhere because I keep thinking that if I just sit down with it long enough, I can fix it myself. That was about 10 sit-down-with-its ago. In the mean time, I'm playing with my new camera and have been doing more digital scrapbooking. Wednesday, March 5, 2008. Do you ever have disappointments in life? Little, small ones. Not the big ones. The ones where you roll your eyes and get on with life very quickly? Tuesday, March 4, 2008.

Wednesday, December 21, 2011. This is older than you. I sometimes find it Xeroxed, framed and hanging in neglected corners of hospitals. Take it down, trust it to your memory, put it among your “Things To Be Remembered,” and look at it when your spirits are low. It’s guaranteed to make you feel strong again. Trust me. Go placidly amid the noise and haste,. And remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender. Be on good terms with all persons. And listen to others,. But d...

January 16, 2018. These days my 3-year-old son, Everest, is totally into letters, words, and writing. But yesterday he took this to a whole new level, and I’ve never been so proud. E: Mommy, what is this letter? ME: That’s a “D.” Like dog or dinosaur –. E: And David Bowie. January 11, 2018. I lost friends because I was mad. You used to be funny, but now you’re angry, one man said in a message before he unfriended me on Facebook. Couldn’t you be less political? There was a lot to be furious about in 2017.

Thoughts and perspectives from a twentysomething expatriate. Tuesday, September 14, 2010. Surprise, surprise. I'm missing Nigeria. Again. Still. Wednesday, September 1, 2010.
