Margaret Hendricks

Monday, March 31, 2014. By Margaret Dianne Hendricks/'85. I have lived my life in fierce independence, depending only on my own skills,. Intelligence, and beliefs. I have never taken anything without giving back more than what was taken. Now, my mental facilities have decayed, my body is depleted and frail, unrecognizing. My life is now in the hands of other, most of them strangers. Please, allow me the dignity with which I have lived to carry me to the end of my days. I ask only the ONE thing. The Truth...

Margaret Hendricks: March 2013

http://maggiepearlpoetry.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Ain't it wonderful, ain't it grand! Ain't it wonderful, ain't it grand! We're a big,fat joke with our heads in the sand. We say we really care, but our butts are in the air. Someone'll come along and shoot em off of there. We'll look up surprised with a tear in our eyes. Ain't it wonderful, ain't it grand! Ain't it wonderful, ain't it grand! We're a big, fat joke with our heads in the sand. We've been PC so long, We see nothing that is wrong. Ain't it wonderful, ain't it grand!

Margaret Hendricks: Work in Progress

http://maggiepearlpoetry.blogspot.com/2014/03/work-in-progress.html

Monday, March 31, 2014. Able-bodied men standing in line. Looking for work they cannot find. Large soulful eyes of little ones. Wondering what bad they have done. When they see no food to come. Where is our heart, where is our soul? What part of this pain is under our control? Terror and war and violence surround. Anger and hate accelerate, abound! Peace is nowhere, nowhere to be found. Man beats man, beats wife, beats child. Each action on the other to rile. Death to death to death it will pile. Waterma...

Margaret Hendricks: August 2012

http://maggiepearlpoetry.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 14, 2012. By Margaret Hendricks 2012. Dedicated to my loved ones, my dears, who were. The sadness in me was so deep. I said, "forever". You said, "temporal". Life screamed so loud it overwhelmed. You said," can, will". You stood outside my gray and waited. Saying in your quiet, calm voice. I hear, I'm near, I love you, dear". You stood outside my gray and waited. Saying in your quiet, calm voice. I care, reach out, dare, dear". Life was simple in the sun. The joy burst so strong it echoed.

Saturday, November 8, 2014. Saying Goodbye to Nacuxa and my life as a PCV. The quote “no one said it’d be easy, they just promised it would be worth it” really describes my life as a Peace Corps Volunteer. There were times when I thought there was no way I could make it another week let alone two years in a foreign country. I am so happy that I can proudly say that I made it! I'm leaving my Mozambican family but returning to my American one. Vou ter muito suadades de vocês! See you in a week, America!

Learn to labor and to wait.". Henry Wadsworth Longfellow - A Psalm of Life (via kellycady. I BECAME A MOTHER, AND DIED TO LIVE. Let’s talk about it, right here and right now, and call it nothing other than a human, adult reaction to a giant shift in identity, a presence of mind recognizing the end of an entire chapter of life, a heart mourning the woman that once was, and a soul shaking under the weight of a new giant world. What did my arms do before they held you? I’m about to be an aunt!
