Maggie was a vivacious and loveable person who lived life to the full. She sadly passed away in November 2011 finally defeated by the brain cancer that had afflicted her for 17 months following diagnosis. Her diagnosis with Glioblastoma Multiforme. Maggie’s 50: 2014. A third annual charity ride in memory of a beloved villager Maggie Harvey took place in Barford St Michael on Saturday 14th June. The return was via Shalston, Mixbury, Evenley, Charlton, Kings Sutton and Tywford before arriving back at Barford St Michael. This year’s event was attended by Maggie’s son Anthony and his father who thanked the participants and said how touched they were by the support. Anthony said he was going to take part and cycle next year. It was bigger than last year! The ride was never meant to be a race and is open to all levels of cyclists; the achievement is just to complete it, but we don’t mind if some wish to test themselves. Saturday June 11th 2016. Maggie’s 50: 2016. This was the fifth year we have held the event, and it was attended by Maggie’s daughter Ruth and her sister Amanda. The numbers were slightly down this year. We believe we lost some support from the surrounding villages because the ride clashed with the various queens Jubilee celebrations. Simon Whitworth, Maggie Harvey and I started to going out cycling together in 2009, we would also take part in the Barford St Michael village challenges together – these were a combination of cycling Canoeing and walking. It was at the time we were practicing for one of these challenges in June 2010 that Maggie was taken ill and diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour.
