Today, Jen, Fi, Ollie and myself all went to Ryde. On the Isle of Wight. To enjoy the sunny weather on the beach. As the water at Ryde is very shallow, the ferry lands at the end of a pier. Which is 2,234 feet long. There is also a hovercraft service from Southsea which goes straight into Ryde, but getting to the ferry is easier for us plus we enjoy the walk along the pier into town. Video of Ffion on the Waterballs. We had a drink and a sandwich then strolled back to the ferry for the journey home.

I have used a home-made veggie filter for my Blagdon Terrace Pond since I’ve had it. It has been faultless with its function and I’d certainly recommend these over commercial units. Sadly, a plant I added a few years ago turned out to be a huge shrub which would grow taller than the house if I let it. I have used a veggie filter in my pond for many years and it’s always worked very well. Substantially cheaper than a commercial unit, much more attractive and being sited inside the pond makes it safer too. I once went on holiday for a week and when I came back, I found my external UV filter had sprung a leak and drained the pond! This is a unit I made which looks after a 120cm Blagdon terrace pond. The pictures are from a second unit I made for a similer pond which I took apart due to moving house.

Today we visited Manor Farm. Near Southampton. They were having a Woolly Weekend special with sheep shearing, wool spinning and various things all to do with wool. Manor Farm over 500 years old. The pigs were wonderful. Snowflake, a huge pig to say the least, was hungry and when she knew food was coming we thought she was going to jump out of her sty!
