The Wandering Holyokes: Oh, Canada!

http://wanderingholyokes.blogspot.com/2014/08/oh-canada.html

Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Acadian Flag image from Wikipedia). If you have ever tried to cross in a camper, you might know that you have to be careful about what foods are in your cupboards and refrigerator and how much alcohol you have on board. Phewcrisis averted, right? Uh huh. And when questioned about where the gun was, my dad calmly told him that he had given it to his son-in-law for safe keeping. Day two: The Breau reunion. We entered the church basement and were given some Breaux cajun seaso...

The Wandering Holyokes: From Smoke-Filled Skies To Death By Chocolate

http://wanderingholyokes.blogspot.com/2012/07/from-smoke-filled-skies-to-death-by.html

Wednesday, July 11, 2012. From Smoke-Filled Skies To Death By Chocolate. It is just one of many fires in the west this summer as everything is incredibly dry. The local fireworks for the 4th were cancelled. The fire fighters are working hard, and if we are lucky we may get a bit of rain this week. At the moment, the fire is 90% contained. We didn't take this photo, but it is the fire and a plane dropping fire retardant on it. The next day we went for a bike ride in Red Canyon. We'll fill you in more ...

The Wandering Holyokes: October 2008

http://wanderingholyokes.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 13, 2008. Above is a picture of Katahdin Iron Works, which you have to pass on the way to Gulf Hagas. We finally found time to visit the "Grand Canyon of Maine". While it is pretty, I can't say that it really rates that name. Just goes to show we don't have many canyons, I guess! We found some great little places to sit and enjoy the sun. It would be a sweet place to go picnic and there would be some nice little swimming holes as long as you were careful to avoid the falls! We are trying ...

The Wandering Holyokes: January 2008

http://wanderingholyokes.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 6, 2008. Cross Country 2004-part 1. As a review for most, we traveled across America for the summer of 2004 in our Class C rv. This was a first for us, as we had no rv experience, and relatively little travel experience outside of New England. But, with a sense of adventure and a few places in mind to visit, we headed out for 52 days of fun. We spent the first night in New Hampshire at a small campground. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Wandering Holyokes: April 2009

http://wanderingholyokes.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 24, 2009. Two National Parks for April Vacation. Dan and Rena were conveniently located in Newport, TN so we took advantage of the proximity to Great Smoky Mountain National park to squeeze in a visit.  The first day that we tried, it was rainy, foggy, and cold.  So we toured a big portion of the park by car. We saw a black bear but it was too fast for the camera. . Labels: Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Here we are.wandering in Yellowstone!

The Wandering Holyokes: August 2010

http://wanderingholyokes.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 25, 2010. When the group decided to stop for a 15 minute snack break, we decided to continue on our own. It was cold, and we didn't feel the need to stop for that long since the pace had been really slow. Above is an attempt to show the sun breaking through the clouds. It didn't come out as nicely as we hoped, but the sun was like a spotlight moving over the forested sections. It was pretty cool. After we left the group at the snack break, we approached this waterfall. We knew that ...

The Wandering Holyokes: Life is "Grand"!

http://wanderingholyokes.blogspot.com/2012/07/life-is-grand.html

Tuesday, July 31, 2012. As you can imagine, Terry has been doing the heavy lifting in making sure that our adventures have been documented in this blog. After our latest chapter, hiking the Grand Canyon, she asked me to take a greater role in writing this entry. Considering the fact that she finished the 28 mile hike despite almost passing out twice, how could I say no? Terry says this is exaggerated). What does this mean to the faithful followers of the blog? We headed to Grand Canyon National Park.

Life With Scout: September 2012

http://lifewithscouty.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

One mom's highly imperfect journey parenting a two-year-old, named Scout. Tuesday, September 18, 2012. A few weeks ago I was joking with a colleague that Scout LOVED all. So, I guess that I should have not been surprised when I heard Jackson screaming, "Mom, she ate it. That. Thing on the counter." The ". Thing" that Jackson could not identify was a zucchini, and he was correct. Scout had snatched the zucchini from the counter and took a rather large bite leaving bits of zucchini on her face.

Mainely Rat Rescue

Welcome to Mainely Rat Rescue! Mainely Rat Rescue (MRR) is a 501(c)3 organization founded in 2007 by four women who saw a need to save unwanted and often misunderstood, domestic pet rats. Having worked and or volunteered for animal shelters and other rescues, they had been using their available resources individually and were re-homing abandoned pocket pets. They decided to rally together, combining resources and sharing contacts, and are now the proud founders of Mainely Rat Rescue. 3 ) :3 ) :3 ).

A Maine runner trying to run a marathon on all 7 continents. Friday, August 14, 2015. One of the things I love about yoga is the prompting to set an intention at beginning of class. Outside of the studio, I rarely take the time to ask myself what exactly it is that I need in that moment. I am too busy trying to blast through my to do list. Sometimes I struggle with identifying the right intention but this week the same intention kept floating effortlessly to mind. Acceptance. I still have a full year lef...

Saturday, March 24, 2012. The Gorham Recreation Department provides maps. Of the 15 public recreation trails in the town on their website. These maps show the trails at the neighborhood scale, but they do not do a very good job of showing the location of each trail at the town scale. Unless you are very familiar with the town and pay careful attention to the trail maps, it can be difficult to find some of these trails. Source: Gorham Parks and Conservation Commission. Turns out it was the wrong trail!

Mainely Sane | When life makes you crazy

When life makes you crazy. From a Door to a Headboard. April 20, 2015. The new king mattress fit nicely into our space, but my sleigh bed, which was made for a queen, was relegated to the attic to sit in storage. For the next 5 years, our bed was a big mattress set on a metal frame. I visited Habitat for Humanity’s Re-store with my friend Denise, and I came home with this door for only $25. The “Princess door.”. After the first coat of paint. Trim and second coat of paint? Once the paint was dry, I had t...
