It will take 4 weeks of exponential growth until it starts producing its silk cocoon. To produce 1 kg of raw silk, 3-4000 silkworms will devour 100 kg of fresh mulberry leaves. In comparison, if developing at the same rate, a newborn baby of an average weight of 3.8 kg would weigh in at an astonishing 19,000 kg at 4 weeks of age!
