Notes on "Ambiguity as a resource for design" | Tats à Rotterdam
http://rotterdam.tats.name/en/node/57
Notes on Ambiguity as a resource for design. The most interesting part for me was "Tactics for using ambiguity" which explicitly gives "tricks" taken from the art world to be applied to design ideas. Use imprecise representations to emphasize uncertainty (e.g. Mona Lisa's smile). Over-interpret data to encourage speculation (e.g. Picasso's Guernica, figured is blurred by overuse of lines). Cast doubt on sources (ie. where does the data come from) to provoke independent assessment. Introduce disturbing si...

Make and Do | Tats à Rotterdam

I have found a few links about virtuality and loneliness. First this post. Tells about the Tamagotchis and the issues it raises for young kids. This article. Talks about virtual pets as a way for old people to overcome loneliness. Here are a few ideas for a title for my work. Building up the model. I have been doing a lot of thinking about the model of control (ie. the behavior) of the object. The model should meet the following objectives:. Work within the constraints of the system. 1/6 second @ 8 bits.

Built it. Doesn't work. Yet. | Tats à Rotterdam
http://rotterdam.tats.name/en/node/59
Built it. Doesn't work. Yet. I built the circuit shown on the image, with the microphone I bought for 1 Euro. I tested the microphone before btw and it seemed to be working well. I get inputs between 506-511 from the Arduino, but still nothing really happens when I make some noise. Submitted by tats on Wed, 06/13/2007 - 17:18. Theme by Egon Bianchet.

Else-if-then: Florian Cramer on the problem of new media paradigms
http://else-if-then.blogspot.com/2008/11/florian-cramer-on.html
Notes on culture, technology, and the occasional personal item. Saturday, November 15, 2008. Florian Cramer on the problem of new media paradigms. Florian at Worm in Rotterdam, Summer 2007. Originally uploaded by cuuixsilver. I go even deeper than that and say that there is a lot in the so-called new media field, especially in the more alternative, or activist, or off-mainstream field, a kind of naive continuity of cybernetics. What do I mean by that? Florian agreed and continued. Less than today's date.
