Maker with Rame Institute. The iconic, Grade 2 listed, Maker with Rame Institute is at the very heart of the local communities of Cawsand and Kingsand. It is used extensively by locals and visitors alike. Its prominent position comes at a price however, the building is extremely vulnerable to attack from the sea and earlier structures on this site have been severely damaged or even swept away, as happened in 1819 in violent storms.

The Institute Snooker Club is now up and running. The full sized table has been fully refurbished and re-covered following the storm damage it suffered in 2014. It is a welcoming and friendly club that caters for players of all abilities. Once we are firmly established we will be entering a team in the local league as well as holding 'fun/social' events for those who prefer to play on a more casual basis. By 1885 the Institute had become a teashop. Twenty years later the building was in such a poor condition that it had to be demolished. A Truly Iconic Building at the Heart of our Village.

The Institute can be easily booked for private functions and groups, indeed it is the backbone of many events in the area. Groups using the Institute include: Tai Chi, Yoga, Sewing CIrcle and WI . It is also the home of many exhibitions which happen every year as well as the regular village coffee morning which is held every Saturday morning to raise much needed funds for both local and main stream charities. The views from the balconies are spectacular. Why not have your event here?

After the storms of 2014, with both central and local government assistance and a substantial input from the insurance company a strengthened sea wall has ensured the future safety of the building. New balconies are now in place with refurbishment and redecoration allowing the building to reopen for use as a meeting place in the centre of the village. Finally opened the box in the late even and I am a little anxious at how I’m going to make this all come together. Thankfully aside from the hardcopy manual, there are video tutorials on YouTube…whew! All I need now is TIME!
