L and I started a 40 pint batch of Muntons Connoisseurs Wheat Beer last night. Simple recipe, we'll have to see how it turns out. I installed some Gila window heat films on the office and dining area in at attempt to cool those rooms down from the constant sun exposure. Not to hard to do once you get the hang of it. We finally broke down and got a honey extractor. Doing scrape and crush was just wasting too much time and wax. We got it from Amazon, here it is. Hmm, the price has gone up. One of the Delawares is only 1 yr old, the other are 2 years old. The Americanas are both 2 years old. We built a 4'x8' coop on some shaky stilts for them. That will need to be addressed. First off, L was stung 4 times Saturday by yellow jackets. I am now at war with them. The 3 traps I've setup have killed dozens, I may put out more since that is a safer way to kill them, sprays can hurt the bees. L is doing ok. but the stings are to the incessant itching stage. We had a small storm in the area last weekend, we lost power Fri night for a few hrs and on Sat am I woke to this:. That was a nice fold-able awning, several aluminium poles snapped and the plastic braces connecting the side poles to the legs broke off. So much for that awning. Well, the 3rd hive did not create a queen from the frame of brood I put into the hive. So Sunday I drove over to Ray, WA and picked up a virgin queen from Miller Compound HoneyBees and Agriculture. The cost was $20, not a bad deal. We'll see how she does. I expect good things since the queen was raised here. INFO FOR 2015 MILLER COMPOUND VSH CARNIOLAN HYBRID QUEENS.
