Making Modern Love: Monday Morning Quarterbacking XVII
http://makingmodernlove.blogspot.com/2009/11/monday-morning-quarterbacking-xvii.html
My brilliant plan to publish an essay, snag an agent and sell my novel. Friday, November 13, 2009. Monday Morning Quarterbacking XVII. I am totally slipping. But it's been a busy week. Anyway, on to the commentary. This week's essay is "A Brief Visit From My Soldier Son" by Charles Rush. What struck me as I read this essay is that it’s not about modern love, it’s about ancient love. The love of a parent for a child. The most primal love there is. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
Making Modern Love: September 2009
http://makingmodernlove.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
My brilliant plan to publish an essay, snag an agent and sell my novel. Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Monday Morning Quarterbacking XII - the short version. So had that essay dropped into the Modern Love email box today, it might have missed its news hook. Monday, September 21, 2009. Monday Morning Quarterbacking XI: Modern Humiliation? Sue Shapiro (last week’s ML author) made a key reveal in her Q and A with this humble blog last week. I liked this essay very much and I was especially impressed with the ...

My brilliant plan to publish an essay, snag an agent and sell my novel. Friday, November 13, 2009. More for The Rejection Collection. Below, please find my latest Modern Love reject. Thanks for reading. The Jordan Runs Through It. I wanted to join her in the shade and in the cry. But I knew I couldn’t. I was making my own last stand that afternoon – indeed, that whole trip. I was doing my best to be an adult. That had my Sandwich Generation complaint beat by a mile, but he didn’t press the point. For eig...
Making Modern Love: Monday Morning Quarterbacking XVIII
http://makingmodernlove.blogspot.com/2009/11/monday-morning-quarterbacking-xviii.html
My brilliant plan to publish an essay, snag an agent and sell my novel. Friday, November 20, 2009. Monday Morning Quarterbacking XVIII. Happy Friday, readers. That Delicate Membrane, the Heart". How convenient - a father/daughter essay in Modern Love, appearing just as my own father/daughter essay is rejected by same. Really, very thoughtful of ML to not only tell me no, but publish an example by which I might see clearly my own shortcomings. Well, there’s no way around this. What’s at stake?
Making Modern Love: January 2010
http://makingmodernlove.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
My brilliant plan to publish an essay, snag an agent and sell my novel. Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Where are the new posts? Sorry for the radio silence all. But I have a really good reason! As some of you may remember, the point of my blog is to eventually generate interest in my novel MY MOTHER, THE PORN STAR. Well, one of the many, many (many) agents I've queried came back with an interesting response. She likes the first 2/3 of the novel, but thinks third act needs work. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Tripping with the Schoenthalers: The most ghastly thing I saw in Nepal
http://trippingwiththeschoenthalers.blogspot.com/2010/01/most-ghastly-thing-i-saw-in-nepal.html
Tripping with the Schoenthalers. The Schoenthaler family's trips to all sorts of places, from Cambridge and Lexington to Nepal. Tuesday, January 19, 2010. The most ghastly thing I saw in Nepal. Seen below is a consent form for a patient receiving treatment for cervical cancer. The document is signed with two fingerprints, indicating that the signature is by someone who is illiterate. Why was this a ghastly document to see? It's fatal more than half of the time -. And it's a terrible, terrible way to die.

Tripping with the Schoenthalers. The Schoenthaler family's trips to all sorts of places, from Cambridge and Lexington to Nepal. Friday, January 8, 2010. These are latex gloves in the wound room at. Pokhara Regional Hospital,. Nicely lined up for re-use after being washed and dried. This is the wound room in the hospital. This is the wound nurse. In some ways the hospital is like all other hospitals. They have signs about how to prevent swine flu. In some ways they differ, though. But most babies are born...

Tripping with the Schoenthalers: Jomsom/Marpha December Adventure
http://trippingwiththeschoenthalers.blogspot.com/2010/01/jomsommarpha-december-adventure.html
Tripping with the Schoenthalers. The Schoenthaler family's trips to all sorts of places, from Cambridge and Lexington to Nepal. Thursday, January 7, 2010. This is a post written by Robin in hindsight. In real time it was (as many vacation adventure stories are) a little teeney weeney bit grimmer. This is the newest lama in the Marpha Monastery. This is Marpha, in the Mustang District of Northern Nepal. Tibet is (vaguely) on the other side of the mountain. Gazing down I mostly thought about how little con...

Tripping with the Schoenthalers: Thangka Paintings
http://trippingwiththeschoenthalers.blogspot.com/2010/01/thangka-paintings.html
Tripping with the Schoenthalers. The Schoenthaler family's trips to all sorts of places, from Cambridge and Lexington to Nepal. Saturday, January 9, 2010. One day we mentioned in passing to Jeny's dad Rajendra that we might be interested in obtaining a Thangka painting (and many thanks to Ms Judy Love our neighbor who taught us about them). The woman in yellow turned out to be a premiere local Thangka artist. There were four completed paintings on the wall (painted in Pokhara, “framed” in...We learned th...

Tripping with the Schoenthalers: Faces
http://trippingwiththeschoenthalers.blogspot.com/2010/01/faces.html
Tripping with the Schoenthalers. The Schoenthaler family's trips to all sorts of places, from Cambridge and Lexington to Nepal. Thursday, January 28, 2010. Sometimes in crowds in Nepal I just lifted the camera up and panned around the crowd and and took pictures. Sometimes I was too far away, sometimes too close. Most of the time people couldn't tell, sometimes I think they suspected but tolerated the intrusive.curious.techno-laden American. I only wish I'd lifted the darn camera more often.

Tripping with the Schoenthalers. The Schoenthaler family's trips to all sorts of places, from Cambridge and Lexington to Nepal. Tuesday, January 19, 2010. The BP Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur, Nepal. As a cancer doctor in the US, I was really interested in trying to see what cancer care is like in Nepal. As a radiation oncologist, I was particularly interested in visiting any radiation facilities in the country. We had a choice of. Touring a factory or going to the hospital. We drove about 15 km ...

Turning problem students into model students, one child at a time. Tuesday, July 21, 2015. If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere, it's up to you, New York, New York! I've spent this summer relaxing and traveling. I feel great and ready to begin a new school year in a new position. In June, I went to the beach with one of my teacher friends. We had a blast! We had an amazing time! I checked so many things off my bucket list on this trip. Seeing Lady Liberty up close and visiting Ellis Island was u...

making molehills out of mountains through Him
Making molehills out of mountains through Him. Been Missing My Blog Lately. I just stopped by to look for a recipe, and realized how much I miss this place! For years, this blog was my sanctuary. I could be me, completely. No pretenses, completely selfish. I didn't really care about traffic. It was my mental dumping ground. I really, really miss it here. Shelve it and think. About moving. That's what to do. From Doubt to Doing It. But then I thought about it.what a fantastic mini-goal! I know I want my b...
