Wednesday, May 5, 2010. In class today, we had Skype conversations with Luther grads who are currently teaching abroad. My group talked with a middle school/high school band teacher in Korea. A blog capturing my thoughts as I begin my journey in becoming a music educator. :-). Thursday, December 4, 2008. They say college is a time to find yourself. A time to discover who you are and what you want to be. That's all well and good. But there seems to be a counteracting pressure to know exactly what you want to do with your life. right now. Choosing a major seems so overwhelming and final. Yet, does choosing a major necessarily mean choosing a career? December 11, 2008 at 2:06 PM. Believe In Your...

Laura's Paideia II Blog: HGTV and Schools
http://forsla01.blogspot.com/2010/03/hgtv-and-schools.html
Thursday, March 4, 2010. I enjoy watching the television channel HGTV, although I don't have my own house to decorate, nor am I in the process of buying a house, so most of the information from that channel is generally irrelevant to my life at this point in time. But, while watching "House Hunters" the other day, the channel became very relevant to my life. March 5, 2010 at 8:39 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Laura's Paideia II Blog. There was one particular passage from our latest reading which stood out to me. Thursday, February 18, 2010. I can only imagine what the real process of budget cuts would be like, with more than four differing opinions and versions of "normal" to try to reconcile in a way that will make everyone happy. But my ...

A blog capturing my thoughts as I begin my journey in becoming a music educator. :-). Thursday, November 20, 2008. As we wrap up our book review project, I thought I would share a few fresh thoughts about the book. Our group read "Teacher Man" by Frank McCourt. It was an enjoyable piece of literature. McCourt has a unique style of writing which made me feel like I was sitting down having a cup of coffee with him while he told me of his experiences in life and in the classroom. Bethany's "Teacher-In-Training" Blog: Parents & Teachers
http://bethany-musiced.blogspot.com/2008/11/parents-teachers.html
A blog capturing my thoughts as I begin my journey in becoming a music educator. :-). Tuesday, November 11, 2008. During last night's seminar, we had the opportunity to talk with a panel of parents about their views on education. [Just as a side note, I would have been interested to talk with parents who were not. It was good to hear about the value parents place on communication between parents and teachers. This is another topic that makes me think, "There is so much. That goes into teaching! Thoughts ...

Laura's Paideia II Blog: November 2008
http://forsla01.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 19, 2008. During lecture on Monday night, we watched the first half of the movie "Chalk." I found this movie very interesting and realistic, although exaggerated. While watching the movie, I wrote down some quotes and observations which I would like to discuss. Quote 1: "War stories from the front lines of teaching.". Observation 3: The "fun" teacher told his giften students to act average and to dumb down, because they knew more than he did about history/social studies. This is a...
