This is the world he's being born into - and that we're all writing for - today. Amazing. Frightening. Terrific. Thanks for posting this. it's pretty freakin' fantastic. LitDept: 10: The Executive
http://litdept.blogspot.com/2007/07/10-executive.html
Some people garden at night. Wednesday, July 25, 2007. Recently, I had lunch with a network executive (from one of the big three) who is a friend of a friend of an aquaintance. It was not a long lunch, though it was clear that he'd read some of my blog and was very nice about it. What's it like to have done work that's been inducted into the NY Museum of Modern Art? It was indeed a favor. I volunteered that I understood why people would mention it and that it certainly was a gushworthy show. I asked him ...

LitDept: 4: Story Story Die
http://litdept.blogspot.com/2006/10/4-story-story-die.html
Some people garden at night. Thursday, October 26, 2006. 4: Story Story Die. The first time I met him - "Jake" - was at Columbia University in a screenwriting class. It happened to be the week one of my screenplays was being presented and he was visiting the professor, an old friend, who was teaching the class. We were actually short a reader, so being a good sport, he took a part and read. But then, what else did I expect from one of the best, most respected story analysts in Hollywood? I decided to wri...

LitDept: The Door Of My Next Life
http://litdept.blogspot.com/2006/08/door-of-my-next-life.html
Some people garden at night. Monday, August 14, 2006. The Door Of My Next Life. EDIT: This is the first entry of the blog in 2006. About a year later, I stopped posting and moved to San Francisco for work. In August 2010, I started blogging again. It's just under 10 feet wide and 10 feet high. Behind it is everything my wife and I own. Two weeks ago, it was behind a very different door, a door that was in New York. But we've decided to leave behind the life that was behind that New York door. But the the...

LitDept: 9: The new writer
http://litdept.blogspot.com/2007/04/9-new-writer.html
Some people garden at night. Friday, April 27, 2007. 9: The new writer. Okay, a friend of a friend sold a pilot last summer and came to town. Being that we're all theatre people, I gave this friend of a friend a call and asked him to dinner. A very good guy this friend of a friend. He says yes. So over steak, he talks about his search for representation, a staff job and film pitching. Apparently, even AFTER selling a pilot he found getting representation difficult. LitDept: 7: The Director
http://litdept.blogspot.com/2006/11/7-director.html
Some people garden at night. Wednesday, November 15, 2006. One of my biggest fears about LA is that I'm not cool enough. I mean, you watch the movies and there are plenty of depictions of agents, actors, directors, production assistants and hangers-on with so much cool, well, southern California begins to feel cold. (For me, it got so I started worrying that even the parking valets sit at the unattainable lunch table of hipness.). The next biggest fear about LA is that cool is all that counts. This truth...
