http://www.malawihazel.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html

Can a scientist with a social life become a social scientist? Wednesday, 31 October 2007. It’s been too long. I normally go back twice a year, but this year my commitments haven’t allowed a mid-year trip. It’s been 10 months, and I’m feeling it. It’s the people and their openness and warmth. Life can be so hard, and yet I’ve never seen so much smiling. Always time to talk and laugh. Really beautiful people. Why do I feel so free there? And maybe it’s other things that are making me blue. The le...Being p...

Can a scientist with a social life become a social scientist? Friday, 11 July 2008. In 1785, Jeremy Bentham, a philosopher, designed a model for a prison called the Panopticon. The defining feature of the Panopticon was that an observer (prison warden) could watch all prisoners without them knowing that they were being watched. This involved partitions intersecting at the correct angle to eliminate shadows, zigzag openings, pods, modules, 180˚field of views. Basically, it was a mechanism. Foucault associ...

malawihazel: Money

http://www.malawihazel.blogspot.com/2009/02/money.html

Can a scientist with a social life become a social scientist? Tuesday, 10 February 2009. How is money created? It is created from debt. In the US, the government gives government bonds to the Federal Reserve (which, by the way is not part of the government) in exchange for money. The bonds are like IOUs - the first step of debt. This money is put in the bank. The bank then creates more money to lend out with this original deposit as a guarantee. More debt. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Can a scientist with a social life become a social scientist? Thursday, 19 February 2009. Today I tried to upload a very cool photo. The site doesn't want to upload photos today. I will post it tomorrrow. If you want to replicate the photo, take the following steps. 1 Go to Mozambique. 2 Take your sister and two boys who like to dig holes. 3 Take the aforementioned to the beach. 4 Wait a few hours. 5 Put sister in the hole. 6 Take the snap. Tova's Random Ramblings...: June 2008

http://tovas.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

A place where I can write about my exciting international adventures. Sunday, June 29, 2008. Another month, another post. Back in the same bagel-bar I posted from in February. Maybe I am trying to become acclimated to the American way of things? More likely I am a little bit masochistic. Sundays I don't work. So I went to see a movie. Although I don't have to go into the office today I should be doing other work. I think I've seen you around University. Is dis right? Want to go for a coffee?

A place where I can write about my exciting international adventures. Friday, March 28, 2008. Blog thoughts from the last few weeks:. One thing that is nice in this country - when I introduce myself to new people, they always get my name on the first try. Its refreshing. With Arabs I sometimes explain that it is like “Shana Tova” because they expect my name to be Toba. Then I am out-ed. Why won’t the World Bank make a decision already? I went to Hebron. Another visit, another baby. I hadn’t...New ideas&#...

A place where I can write about my exciting international adventures. Monday, October 29, 2007. Since one of the people who actually looks at this requested posts from friends, I am cheating by posting her pictures. Photo credits go to the Social Scientist, since I was too lazy to carry my camera. These are some pics from the very European wedding of Davina and Joe-Joe the rabbit in Majorca/Mallorca. After the ceremony, at the reception. Fun on the beach, holding the sun. Game 4 is tonight - Go Red Sox!
