The International Summer Camp of the Order of Malta was initiated by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. The first camp took place in Austria 25 years ago. Our mission is to make it possible for young disabled members of the Malta community to get together once a year, to get to know a different country and most of all to have a good time. A summer camp on such a scale needs good logistics. The entire camp is organised by voluntary members of the Order of Malta Ambulance Service. Order of Malta Ambulance Service (MHDA) is the largest disabled care and paramedic organisation based entirely on voluntary work in Austria. The 1,500 members serve a yearly total of 130,000 hours. The core competencies are work with disabled people and paramedic service. Our work with the disabled is mostly financed by generous donations.

Eine Entscheidung zu treffen war dabei gar nicht so einfach, denn es gab die Möglichkeit ins Ötzidorf zu fahren und sich dort das Leben vor ca. 5000 näher bringen zu lassen oder eine Sennerei zu besuchen und zu sehen wie diverse Michprodukte entstehen. Samstag, 2. August 2008. Rauf auf den Berg,. Am Donnerstag fuhren wir mit der Zahnradbahn zum Archensee, wo sich uns ein herliches Panaorama, beim Aufstieg, bot. Oben angekommen stiegen wir von der Bahn ins Schiff um, und machten ein herliche Rundfahrt um den See. Anschließend gab es ein picknick. Um unseren Freunden, Bekannten, Anrainern, Sponsoren und Interessierten die möglichkeit zu geben unsere Arbeit kennen und verstehen zu lernen, luden wir gestren zum Tag der offenen Türen aber auch zu dem der offenen Herzen. Geboten wurde so einiges von Spielestationen für Kinder über den Mundmahler Lars Köllerer bis hin zum Fussballspiel der Nationen bei dem auch Landtagspresident Herwig van Staa eifrig mit spielte. Freitag, 1. August 2008. Unser Großmeister Haut nah. Seine Hoheit und Eminenz Frà Matthew Festing. Hat es sich nicht nehmen lassen, zum 25 Jubiläum des IMS, selbst vorbei zu schauen. Er reißte am Mittwoch privat nach Tirol an besuchte mit uns am Vormittag die Kristallwelten in Wattens. Am Nachmittag fand der traditionelle Christopher's Cup statt, der jedes Jahr zum Gedenken an die bei der Heimfahrt nach dem IMS 1994 verunglückten Malteser, veranstaltet wird.
