Mama Marathon: December 2011
http://mamamarathon.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
With two young kids and a full time job, staying fit and meeting my running goals is not a sprint - it's a marathon. Thursday, December 22, 2011. One hip mama, part 2. In a previous post. I had an MRI and found out I had a torn labrum in my hip. Now is the time on the blog where we talk anatomy of the hip. Ball and socket, sound familiar? How do you fix a torn labrum? When my doctor first floated the word "surgery," I immediately burst out with "I HAVE A NATURAL DISTRUST OF ORTHOPEDIC SURGEONS!
Mama Marathon: March 2011
http://mamamarathon.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
With two young kids and a full time job, staying fit and meeting my running goals is not a sprint - it's a marathon. Saturday, March 26, 2011. Race report - Cville 10 Miler. Record breaking freakout this week. Clearly, that works for me. And leverage I did! Coming to the uphill at the downtown mall, approaching mile 5, I took a quick look at my watch and my pace chart. This was pretty exciting, but I knew the toughest parts of the course were yet to come. Proof: me, just before the finish, sprinting like...
Mama Marathon: One hip mama, part 4
http://mamamarathon.blogspot.com/2012/01/one-hip-mama-part-4.html
With two young kids and a full time job, staying fit and meeting my running goals is not a sprint - it's a marathon. Saturday, January 14, 2012. One hip mama, part 4. In the previous post. I'd visited with Dr. D, the orthopedic surgeon. At every step along the way, I keep expecting that somebody will say, "yeaaaaah, so, you're really fine. Quit whining." It's great to have a diagnosis and a treatment plan. But what I really want is for ice, Advil, and a reality check to cure me. But there's a price.
Mama Marathon: August 2011
http://mamamarathon.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
With two young kids and a full time job, staying fit and meeting my running goals is not a sprint - it's a marathon. Monday, August 29, 2011. It's no secret that I worship at the altar of Lorenzoni. I've been a customer at their shop. For more than 20 years - my first memory of buying shoes there dates back to 9th grade. I can count on one hand the number of pairs of running shoes I've bought somewhere else in those 20 years. It's a bit fanatical for a shoe store, right? PS For my readers who are running...
Mama Marathon: Fix my labrum
http://mamamarathon.blogspot.com/2012/01/fix-my-labrum.html
With two young kids and a full time job, staying fit and meeting my running goals is not a sprint - it's a marathon. Tuesday, January 24, 2012. I decided my labrum need a blog of its own - you can follow my surgery and recovery at http:/ fixmylabrum.wordpress.com/. I'm just over a week away from surgery, so this blog will be going on hiatus a bit while I sacrifice my fitness in the short term for a pain-free hip in the long term. And donate to bring Solha the dog home from Afghanistan!

IronMo: Now What?: November 2010
http://goironmo.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
I learned to ride a bike while training for an Ironman. Surely I can handle this. I could not hate cancer more if I tried. Because yesterday it took my aunt, Betsy, 56 years young, after just a 4 1/2 month battle. By the time they found it, it was already hugely metastasized to her liver. She never had a chance. Thank goodness for Massachusetts Health Insurance, which at least allowed her to fight with dignity and without pain. And no pantyhose. Ever. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Sweat Once a Day.

I learned to ride a bike while training for an Ironman. Surely I can handle this. As of this Tuesday I am living with my parents again for the first time since 1993. Not sure how any of us feel about this! I am also signed up for the Lance Armstrong Foundation's Livestrong Challenge. Which I'll join in Philly on August 22. I'm signed up for the 70 - which looks kind of hilly - and I am riding in honor of RayRay. I am part of Team Fatty - Fatty is the guy behind FatCyclist.com. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

I learned to ride a bike while training for an Ironman. Surely I can handle this. Because you know what would be AWESOME, when you thought you'd finally recovered, and spent 3 solid months putting in solid miles and feel like maybe you're back on track to be Pre-Grad School, Pre-Injury, kind of Mo (maybe even the Iron-Mo kind, if spirit if not in actuality)? But the hard drive is dead. So couldn't think about next steps til I arrived at work on Monday. I was psyched for Parks, on Sept 11. MCM is not ...

I learned to ride a bike while training for an Ironman. Surely I can handle this. Ankle update part 27. I finally (finally) got to see the orthopedist yesterday. a full 5 weeks after receiving the referral. Popular guy! They took 6 more xrays of my ankle (all weight-bearing) which showed nothing. So I am now scheduled for an MRI and a CT on the 16th, and am feverishly praying that my crappy student insurance actually covers it! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Ankle update part 27. Sweat Once a Day.

I learned to ride a bike while training for an Ironman. Surely I can handle this. That's what I am! It was lovely to be in Boston for a few days, seeing almost my entire family, including Betsy (missed my brother by about 2 hours), and walking around a place I know like the back of my hand. There is a gym at the office but don't quite yet know how to fit that in with being away from dog for 9 1/2 hrs - BEFORE a gym visit - and not affording a dog walker ($200 a month is the "best deal"! Sweat Once a Day.

I learned to ride a bike while training for an Ironman. Surely I can handle this. And again with the Bastard Cancer. Last week my aunt Betsy was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer. Who knew you could even GET gallbladder cancer? My mom's been a nurse for 43 years and she didn't know! Fortunately, because of my connection with LiveStrong, we've connected Betsy with it as well, and she's receiving a notebook for the newly diagnosed that will help her keep track of all of her medicines, appointments, etc....
Training Season | Fix My Labrum
https://fixmylabrum.wordpress.com/2015/03/07/training-season
Race Report: Cherry Blossom 10 Miler. Race Report: Charlottesville 10 Miler. The hip is better than ever. I have great range of motion, no pain, and so I forget to blog about fixing it. Today, the 8K I was supposed to run was cancelled due to the snowy and icy conditions on the course. Coach Mark very kindly offered the group a pace workout instead. Somewhere in the middle, we started speeding up. By the end, my last 800 was 4:24. That’s pretty epic for me! I’m really happy with it, and glad I did ...

Race Report: Nike Women’s Marathon Half DC. Turn that frown upside down. Race report: Montalto Challenge 2013. I wish I had a good juicy race report for this one – it deserves better. This is a unique, all-uphill 5K that finishes at Montalto, which overlooks Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s home and a World Heritage site. I mean, who gets to do that? Just me and 300 of my closest running friends. It’s crazy awesome. And thus concludes my 2012-2013 racing season! Share on Facebook (Opens in new window).

Putting one foot in front of the other day by day. Sometimes we stride, sometimes we stand still…. 262miles of Marathon Memories. Let’s start at the end… On the the morning of Mon 28th April. I still wasn’t breathing properly and couldn’t take a deep breath in, so I decided to see the doctor. Turns out I had put strain on my chest and had inflammation in my lungs (irritated by my bronchitis 2 weeks previous). My doctor ended up giving me antibiotics and steroids. The “start” line).
