Wednesday, January 12, 2011. My 20-month old could draw that. The Ottawa arts community is abuzz with the recent opening of an exhibit of Miya Nagaraj's latest work. These bold, colourful pieces - praised by critics as a striking combination of innocence and bravado - are set to move quickly. The paintings are a mixed media of water-soluble paint and dish soap on paper. The artist, famously reticent in talking about her art and influences, has simply titled them 'paintings'. Friday, September 17, 2010. Having mastered walking, Miya has been looking for new challenges. Given that her feet aren't quite long enough to reach the stirrups, horseback riding was out. Saturday, October 15, 2011. This morning Miya took a trip to Foster's pumpkin patch on the southeast end of Ottawa. There were piles of pumpkins for sale, but it was much more exciting to head off the big pumpkin patch and choose her own. The weather was cool, with sprinklings of wind and smatterings of rain, but Miya was undaunted. She and her father carefully searched through acres of pumpkins (okay, a small field) to find the perfect daddy sized pumpkin and Miya sized pumpkin.

Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Donations made easy - household pick-ups. My biggest challenge is not what. To get rid of - but where. To give the donations. I have some shelves in the basement where I've been putting items I have decided to pass on. But how to find someone who can make use of them? And since I'm working full-time, it's hard to make trips around the city to make donation drop-offs (to places like food banks. Shelters, and supportive services for young moms. Sunday, October 16, 2011. Today I dug out my silk long underwear from the bottom dresser drawer, donned a pair of woollen socks and unearthed my curling shoes. Another curling season has begun. On Sunday mornings I curl with Saskatchewan Mafia. I kid you not. I am not by any stretch an avid curler. I have curled on and off for probably about 5 years now, but this is with non-competitive teams and my seasons have been interrupted by such things as injury, pregnancy and child care. Three cheers for curling!

Tuesday, January 07, 2014. It is amazing how one little person can have so many clothes! As any parent knows, you end up with a lot of clothes when you have a baby. And given that most babies grow an inch a month in the first six months, then an inch every two for the rest of their first year. Baby clothes are outgrown very quickly. There are cute little outfits my girls have received as gifts that were only worn once or twice before they were outgrown. There are consignment stores, such as Boomerang Kids.
